Witness Pavona 380 failure to chamber round.
« on: July 20, 2017, 10:17:39 PM »
I was shooting my Witness (Tanfoglio) Pavona 380.    Occasionally the slide would not return fully forward and chamber the round.  This seemed to happen about once in every other magazine I shot.  It was about 1/2" short of fully closing.  I would simply bump the back of the slide with my off hand and it would slide completely in and be ready to shoot.  Seemed to happen about half way through the magazine (14 rounds).

I was shooting ammo I bought at the range.  Aguila FMJ.   My first suspicion is the ammo should be a little hotter.   This gun has had maybe 500 rounds through it.

Any opinions, or suggestions for hotter range ammo?

Aguila ammunition and I are not currently on the best of terms, so I recommend that you try a box of Federal Champion, Aluminum Case or Brass Case.  In the "Store-Bought" Ammunition realm, that is my favorite.

Back when I used to bother to reload the .380 ACP, I used Alliant Green Dot to propel 90 grain Cast RN's to about 800 fps or so.  With the Prices on .380 ACP now costing more than 9mm, I might have to go back to loading it, although I rarely shoot my only remaining .380 ACP Walther PPK/S, now having moved on to a small 9mm for carry.

For all of those killed by a 9mm: "Get up! You are not dead! You were shot with a useless cartridge!"
