Estonia Galil SAR
« on: August 11, 2017, 07:54:52 AM »
Estonia is one of a number of countries where the IMI Galil SAR (not the IWI Galil Ace) is still in use. These were purchased in the late 90s and "modernized" by B&T and others in the early 2000s. It should be noted that one of the reasons claimed for the Galil's demise was the difficulty in taking on accessories, so the upgrade with optic mounts, railed handhguards and horizontal charging handles. Really it was the flooding of AR15s by the US into Israel that prevented any further development in the more expensive platform. They replaced some of the Galils with the HKG36s and is in the process of replacing all units with a recent tender. Here's my take on the Estonian Galil SAR.

Found a B&T fore grip....in tan painted black. May lose the light....it's getting heavy!

Very nice! I always heard that the Galil was very forward thinking in it's day, and only the free M16s doomed it. Too bad.

The  basic Galil SAR was built by one of the Galil whores at at the AK forums, Mullicrk. The additional garnishings were put in by me.

How much does it cost to have a Galil built by a builder and where did you get the receiver?

Had to at least find out if it is at all feasible to have a magnifier work that far from the red dot. Cannot find the mount in the picture but found a railed AK top cover that works...I think....and mounted (cheap mount I had) and a new vortex (good reviews for the price) magnifier and....Voila! It works! When I do get some extra $$$ I'll get an eotech or aim point magnifier.

All dressed up and nowhere to go.....

Didn't like the Blackthorne railed cover.....too much rail. So I installed a short rail on a Galil cover at a cost of two drill bits!

Tried an Aimpoint magnifier but am getting a better sighting with the Vortex so this may be the final Estonia Galil SAR....found a B&T lightweight bipod.....this thing needs it!
