Faux Suppressor or Muzzle Brake
« on: August 12, 2017, 08:31:57 PM »
Hi all. New to the forum but been lurking here for awhile. Lots of great info here. Thinking about buying a carbine but undecided if I should get one with faux suppressor or the muzzle brake. At this time planning on leaving it stock as it comes except for the safety and trigger work. Any suggestions would be appreciated,. Thanks.

Welcome, I cannot advise on the carbines. I will say this I think you will enjoy whichever one you get.

Neither one is functional, so get whatever is cheaper or tickles your fancy more. I think the can looks better, but it seemed really mall ninja to me to have a fake can on the gun so I bought the brake. Spent the savings fixing the grip and trigger.

I agree with greyling22. The faux suppressor really doesn't serve any purpose. Don't get me wrong I think it looks cool but I went with the muzzle break carbine. You can always add a real suppressor at a later date. Use the money saved to upgrade the trigger and get some extra mags. I got mine at deguns.net for $799.99. It seemed like a pretty good deal to me. Take a look.

I still don't think there is enough gas at the end of a 16" barrel to work a brake, despite clearwave's claims.

9mm out of a 16" barrel is around 7,500psi, whereas a 223 out of a 16" is close to 50,000psi. (at least according to this pressure calculating spreadsheet I found online here http://closefocusresearch.com/calculating-barrel-pressure-and-projectile-velocity-gun-systems

brakes work well on rifles, not so good on 9mm and 22lr.

dunno my slr synergy minicomp works pretty well on my pistol vs the factory bird cage it had before. I shoot hard and fast and the muzzle stays more flat and controlled than before. But true there isn't that much pressure coming out of a 9mm "or flash" but if you're trying to decide on paying for something real attached to your muzzle vs something fake the choice is obvious.

Since both carbines will perform very well, get which ever is the least expensive.  Then you can change, what ever you do not like.

That's the approach I took.  The best deal available was on one with a faux suppressor, so that's what I got.

Since you left it open for suggestion...

Don't get a carbine.  Get a pistol and a brace.  It's easier to work on, (like getting to the handguard nut on the carbine is a pain, it's the same weight as an average AR-15 but only fires 9mm, it's not what the gun was ever designed to actually be... etc)

If you ignore that, and do a carbine anyway.  Function over form, I would get a brake because it actually does something, and weighs less.

You will not leave the gun stock for long.  It has a short list of warts that need removed.

In the end the Scorpion is a phenomenally handy little accurate, reliable, 9mm.  The ergo's need work.  And tailoring it to fit you will be quite worth it in the end.  The safeties are awful, and so is the trigger.  Both can be fixed easily.  I personally think the factory mag release is also on that list.  (And the grip)

For the money, it's a good gun to build from.

Bought my carbine used but unfired in the box.
Got it for a good price but it had the faux suppressor....It had to go.
I ended up putting the Kaw Valley Precision Linear Comp 9MM 1/2x28

How do you know if your Scorpion has 1/2 x 28 threads?
