CZ 97b. Stiff slide release
« on: August 29, 2017, 09:56:04 PM »
The slide release on my new CZ 97 is very hard to operate and I can barely release the slide with my right thumb. I have cycled the slide and the release many times hoping it would 'wear in' but to no avail.

What is your experience with the slide release?  Stiff and hard to operate? Did you do anything to ease its  operation?

TIA

Eric

It shouldn't be hard to operate. My will auto forward without me seating the mag very hard.

I would also test it with the slide removed as well as mag in mag out. There are a few things that i can think of that can impact the slide stop tension. Testing it may help narrow thing down.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

It's called a slide stop.
To release the slide just pull back and release, "slingshot" it.

Of course I can 'slingshot' the slide but that requires two hands. I have disassembled the gun, lubed everything, tried it with and without a magazine but it is still very stiff.
I can hardly release the slide with one hand after a magazine change and have to help my right thumb with the left.  Again, two hands required. I am comparing the 97 to an Armand Swenson 1911 that I can easily release with just my right thumb.

Do you find your slide stop to be difficult to release?  Is this just my gun or are they all stiff??

Tnx. Eric

From what i have seen it can vary a bit from pistol to pistol. Most of mine are on the stiff side but i can still release the slide if i apply enough force to the lever.

It may be worth while to take a look at the Slide Stop Retaining Spring, its tension can be adjusted. I would also closely examine the surfaces where the slide stop contacts the slide stop notch in the slide. These contact surfaces can be polished/adjusted if necessary to reduce the required force to actuate the Slide Stop Lever.
