Magazine hang up
« on: September 13, 2017, 08:40:25 AM »
My new 97 has a quirk, Im hoping its not a major issue.

When i seat a loaded mag the top round gets hung up on the bottom of the ejector.  If i dont push the round all the way to the rear of the mag it wont hang up. Ive tried to smack the mag in with a snap cap and it seems to bounce up and will chamber correctly. Wondering if others have this issue?

Do you have more than one mag? It may be possible you have a catch slot that's too low. If more than one mag does it, the next thing to look at would be the mag release. The catch itself could be milled too high.
It's also possible that your sear cage is out of spec, but I would look at the other things first.

Both mags do it, and with empty mag its not an issue.

Darkwaters-
I just checked my pistol and immediately realized I was not understanding what was happening in the picture you posted. That is NOT happening due to your mag or release.
My brass appears to do the exact same thing, but does correct itself when pressing the mag in.

If the firearm functions properly, I'd say it's fine- if the mag hangs up a lot when inserting, you might try pulling the sear cage out and filing a light bevel on the bottom edge to help push that round where it wants to be.
In fact, I'm doing some work on mine right now, and I might just do that.

Do they sit lower, or farther forward? I'm curious what the difference is
