New to me CZ97
« on: September 26, 2017, 10:01:11 AM »
I just picked up a CZ97 B yesterday.  I have been waiting for one to to show up at the LGS.  I heard that CGW does a 1911 bushing mod, is it worth it?

Will be taking it shooting this week.  It may be my new uspsa gun, if I try to uspsa

The "E" enhancement is definitely worth it.

Yes, but shoot it a while first to see how it performs.

Here's my experience with them.  http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=89785.msg679711#msg679711

I bought a new 97B early last year. The trigger is now nicely broken in at about 750 rounds and some dry fire. It's now good enough to use as-is for range and plinking. The factory threaded bushing on mine would not quite index to a "tight" position so I got another one and it was only a little "tighter". Last time I cleaned it I put the original on and this time it indexed perfectly to a nice, "tight" position. Accuracy is noticeably better. If I were using this pistol for any competition, the CGW treatment would be nice but my 97B is working very well for my use now.

Add some white gas tape to the treads of your barrel bushings, makes it verry tight!

The factory threaded bushing IS NOT supposed to be tight. You run it all the way in till it stops only and if it's not lined up then back it out to the first notch that lines up.
If you want a better option for the barrel bushing the CGW 1911 style bushing upgrade is the way to go and improves accuracy to levels comparable to high end 1911 pistols.

The bushing on my 97 BD is not  fully tight when installed.
honestly the 97 that I have is as accurate as any of my 1911's on a day in and day out basis so I don't see  how a designer bushing would help me or the gun with accuracy.
it can already shoot more accurately than I can.
but mileage will differ from shooter to shooter and gun to gun.

It is not a "designer bushing" it's a custom upgrade and it probably won't help you but at longer ranges it does improve the mechanical accuracy of the pistol. I like it on my gun and would have no problem purchasing it again and if nothing else it simply looks better than that  "spanner" bushing CZ uses.

took the 97 BD to the range this morning, ran 200 round through it.
100 as  defense training, 5-15 yards, double, triple taps, all the fun good stuff.
then ran the other 100 at 7 -25 yards  kind of taking my time.
the gun is just sick as to accuracy and feel in the hand.
works for me and how I intend to use the weapon.

I'm a bullseye shooter so I ordered my 97B with the "E" bushing from CGW a few years ago.  I never shot it with the factory bushing.  It is absolutely perfect as far as barrel lock up goes with the "E" bushing, and the gun runs perfectly.

I suspect the factory bushing has some variation from pistol to pistol but it is never as tight as the "E" modification.  I think if the gun's accuracy meets your needs, skip it.  But I only have two bushing-ed guns and they both have CGW bushings now.  I don't think I could be happy with a factory bushing in any CZ after being spoiled by the 10x in my 75B and the "E" in my 97.

But...I'm a bullseye shooter.  I have convinced myself that I truly "need" a gun that will shoot 1 to 1-1/2" five shot groups at 50 yards from a rest when using a red dot sight, thus the CGW bushings.  Surprisingly, my P-09 and P-07 guns without any bushing can also shoot that well (with a red dot installed).

I called CGW today and spoke to David. He said that they aren?t taking any CZ97B?s right now for the complete E Conversion (pro package + slide work and custom bushing) because they are backed up. He said they may be taking them in November. However, he did say that they could do the slide work now and be done in 14-20 Days. I shipped my slide to them today. I also ordered the pro package and will have my own gunsmith do the pro package work.

Took my 97 to the range along with a Jericho 941 in 45. The 97 was accurate but is the chamber tight? It wouldn't close on abt 8 rds that the Jericho ate no problem. Also had a couple of failure to fires on the first strike. Is there something i should be looking at?

It was pretty accurate but thinking abt a 1911 bushing even more now. Love my 1911s

My opinion is that the chamber is tight than other .45s.  If you are shooting reloads, the casings may be a little too large for your pistol.  Also, the guns are tight when new and that will slow the slide down some.  Try some box ammo or new brass, clean the slide rails and add some light oil for now, shoot it some more, and then see how it is.

Thanks for the reply.

It was reloads, is there something that can be done about the atrocious amount of travel between reset and release of the trigger.  Also the Jericho has an awful DA pull, long and heavy, can it bs lightened?

CGW has a short reset trigger parts that will help a bunch, but it will never be like a 1911, because the 97 was designed as a DA/SA pistol.  I'm thinking the Jericho can be helped a bunch with a little lighter hammer spring and some polishing work.  Again, perhaps ask CGW.  (I quit shooting a 1911 when I got the 97 so the reset doesn't bother me now.  All my CZ's are that way.)
