I've always scoffed at mag loaders - I can generally load faster by hand. And, since I'm a mag junkie, I usually have enough mags to run a whole class or match with minimal, if any, reloading. My thumbs get a bit sore after loading 15-20 mags, but I do it the night before so it's not an issue.
I'm really intrigued by the
ETS Cam loader, but I can't get over the feeling that it's rough on the feed lips.
I've tried to use the UPLULA, but it doesn't feel natural to me, and I'm way faster with my thumb.
So... as part of a promotion from S&W, I got one of these with the purchase of an M&P:
https://www.btibrands.com/product/mag-charger-universal-pistol-loader/I loaded 3 M&P mags, 3 CZ mags and 1 (all I had within reach) Glock mag with it, and it worked great. It wasn't super fast, but it took no effort at all. The only issues I had were when the mag wasn't fully secured - it has to be all the way in to work. When it is, it's super smooth.
I tried a Tripp, a Metalform and a MecGar 9mm 1911 mag in it and it didn't work for those at all. The Tripp and Metalform I could load the first round, but the second wouldn't go in no matter how I adjusted it. The Mec Gar, I couldn't get anything to load.
I didn't have any .45 within arms reach, so I haven't tried any single or double stack .45 mags.
I don't know that I'd drop $40 on one, but since I got it for free, I think I'll start using it to load mags at home and save the thumb blisters. At least until I can work up the courage to try the ETS.
