CZ Frame Size......**POLL**
« on: October 23, 2017, 09:46:44 PM »
Short history on why I came up with this "question".....I used to really be a fan of the Compacts, I've owned every one in fact, but as time went on I found I preferred the fit (in the hand) and shoot-ability of the Full-Size.  I eventually did some advanced calculations  ::)  just to see how much difference there actually was between them, since in my own mind (a truly scary place  O0 ) I really didn't see much difference.....so here are the numbers comparing two of the three:

                       Height       Length
Full Size             8.1"          5.4"
Compact            7.24"        5.03"

% Difference      6.8%       10.6%    (Compact is 8.75% smaller)

The weights can make a bigger difference......if CZ ever manufactured a Full-Size w/alloy frame I'm thinking there would be less demand for the Compact.

Full Size (steel)          Compact (steel)       Compact (alloy)     % Difference

Ounces                     35.2                             32.8                                                 6.9%
                                35.2                                                         27.5                   21.9%

I prefer the full size 75BD metal for target shooting, and the RAMI for carrying. My compact alloys for target shooting and carrying. I couldn?t participate in the poll since I like certain pistols for different applications.

I fully understand your statement.....the point I was "trying" to make is that there really isn't a significant difference in size between the full and compacts....weight can be another story.  But seems like folks in "general" usually have a go-to size, just trying to get some feedback from the collective  ;)

Though great CZ's I didn't include composite CZ's on purpose.....those are kind of a different animal from the steel/alloy CZ's  :)  But then again the same comparisons could probably be made for the composite styles

Well I beg to differ.... there is a difference and even you said it yourself when you said the full size guns fit your hand better. Length width and height is not a determining factor. Feel is. I am the opposite of you... I have never handled a full size gun I have ever liked. This goes back to my 30 years in the military....I hated the 1911's and the Beretta 92 we used. I have always bought compacts because they feel good in my hand. I still walk through gun stores and pickup a full size and try it and immediately put it down.  So your thinking there would be a less need for compacts because of their difference in size and weight and made from a lighter alloy is not a valid conclusion.  You discovered the real answer but ignored it and that is that the gun feels good in your hand. So you use your alloy full size and I'll use my compact guns because they fit.

Good points.....so maybe a small physical difference does matter a lot to some shooters.....just the kind of staunch feedback I was hoping to get from folks....I'm guessing that's one vote for the Compacts  ;D

For carry,
I like a full size grip.
I like the compact size for conceal.
I like an alloy frame.

Usually carry a PCR with a 13 rnd mag and a 16 rnd. mag with a spacer for full-size grip. If conceal isn't a factor then a full-size alloy frame 1911. If I had a decent holster I would carry my Canik alloy frame L120 more often. It Might be my favorite CZ-style handgun.

For everything else a Phantom or P09 because with a bad shoulder weight is a primary consideration. I don't consider them different from steel/alloy at all. They are all handguns and go bang.

I would really like to see a SubCompact single stack with 75 upper characteristics and an alloy frame.

I like my CZ full size guns just fine but for all around versatility I find the 75B compact (steel) and PCR ( aluminum) hard to beat. Both fit my hand perfectly, capacity is more than acceptable, I shoot both frame sizes equally well and the compacts conceal easier with the shorter grip frame. Weight is not an issue but I find the PCR to be the perfect handgun for me. All that said I have tried many sub compact pistols and have less than zero interest in those so if the need arises to carry a small gun my J frames still get the nod.

Well, I chose compact steel, because that's what I carry quite often.

I really like the feel of my P01 in my hand.  I can feel the grooves up the front/back of the grip when I have it in my hand.  I seldom pick it up without realizing just how good it fits/feels in my hand - but I don't carry it and seldom shoot it.  I carry a steel framed Compact sometimes.  My P07 most of the time.

I like my CZ 85 (Pre B model) so much I spent the time/money/effort to convert a CZ 75 Compact to CZ 85 controls (that's the steel framed compact I carry), but that Pre B CZ 85 is the only full sized steel framed CZ I would consider carrying.  The Tactical Sport is a monster, for carry anyway (steel framed full sized - maybe more than full sized?? CZ).
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
