LEE Turret Press Index Rod Lube

FWIW:  I've found lubing the Lee Turret Spiral  Press index to be the biggest mess on the press.
I started trying a "different type of lube" and found it works very well and little or no mess.
 . A trick learned driving wood screws into hardwoods is to use CHAPSTiCK to lightly lube the threads.

I tried the CHAPSTiCK on the Lee index rod and the plastic square works perfectly.  I just dab a small bit in each rod groove above and below the ratchet.  It works very well and leaves no oily/greasy mess.

For the few that use the Lee Turret Press,  give this a try using the "original" basic CHAPSTICK.     I think you'll like it.

Thanks for the tip.  I?ll have to get all the graphite powder off of there before I apply the chapstick!

Couldn't you simply wait for January and just kiss the rod ?
That seems so much simpler.

Wobbly,  I have to confess I'm abusive to my press.  Kisses don't get its attention.

Just an aside about CHAPSTICK:  I was awarded $60 some years back by a woodworking magazine that published readers "TIPS".  My "tip" was to use "CHAPSTiCK" to lube wood screws before driving them into hardwoods.
It's right in there with Mobile 1 for some uses

Lee told me it is entirely unnecessary to lube the index rod. I haven't had issues running mine dry.

Driving wood screws I just buy a toilet wax bowl ring, you can stick a bunch in having them stand strait up easy to grab.

Lee told me a heavy grease works best for them.
I've used nothing, Mobil 1 and grease.  With NO lube:As the square plastic gets worn (maybe 6 months of regular use) the rod will have to be adjusted to keep indexing properly.  It eventually doesn't want to slide up and down freely unless some lube on the rod "pushes" it up/down and at the same time extends the life of the ratchet.  Yes I replace the square, but they last many thousands of rds and rarely need rod adjustment with a little lube.
