What have I done?????
« on: November 07, 2017, 09:21:37 PM »
So tonight I cleaned my 75 compact in the Ultrasonic cleaner.

Ran it through twice, looks amazing.

Free tip, if the grips have tape or abrasive type sections, TAKE THOSE OFF!!!!!

So the machine melted them off.

No big deal though.

After 2 more coffees I decided to fully break the gun down.

After a couple videos and an hour of struggle I wound up with what?s in the picture below.

After staring at it for ten minutes I?m pretty sure I?m in too deep.

Tomorrow will hopefully bring renewed enthusiasm!!!!

That's deep alright.
I think you should whip out the 1600grit and a polishing wheel while you ponder putting it all back together again.

Ahhh yeah, that's a party! First off I'm thrilled to death for you that the firing pin block lifter arm spring is in the pic and you were able to keep it from flicking away! Congratulations good sir!

I agree with MadDunner, if you are brave enough to open it up I would do some polishing first. You can't mix those parts up any more than you already have. Since it's a decocker there's one little part you'll want. A slave pin for the parts in the sear cage. CGW has them or you can create one if you're in the mood.

I don't have a decocker, so my videos were only covering the safety models. I could get you 90% of the way there on a video call. 100% once I watch some on the decockers. I can definitely jump on a video call and tell what all the parts are and help you get them sorted out, labeled, and ready for assembly.

Captain, this does not compute for a normal cleaning!

You will also want the CGW floating trigger pin! And while you are at it, just get an ultralite kit at least, and a spare L spring!

A short reset  kit is good as well.

Find someplace that sells the big girl panties, then get to work!

Just think........after you get it all back together you'll be an expert  ;D   Its a bit frustrating the first time but rest assured it does go back together.....just remember, when you think you're done, if you have spare parts that's not ideal  ???

Ditto on ordering the slave pin and L spring.  Maybe 2 or 3 L springs because they tend to fly off into outer space.

1--it did in fact flick away!!  I searched for 10 minutes and found it!
2--guy at range today also said same thing about slave pin, another education for me.
3--your offer of help is incredibly generous and i may hit you up, thank you very much.

Since my plan was to have this cerakoted as it had some cosmetic issues, my re assembly will happen after i get it back.

Will from Vulture got a good laugh when i explained what i did and even offered to put Humpty together again for me.

It will be a good education to re assemble as it was to dis assemble.

Thank GOD FOR YOU TUBE!!!!!!!

And thanks everyone for chiming in.  Still laughing about it!!

Happy to be of help.

If you're thinking of polishing I would do so before you send it away to get Cerekoted. There are some areas in the frame that are pretty impactful to polish and doing so would be easier now than after you get a new finish on it. I can post pics of the spots if you're going to do so.

welcome pad wan,

i guess you like to jump in head first without looking ????

some hints...

 - keep a large clear bag around when you do things like this.  When you do, put the gun in the bag and disassemble the gun and such in the bag.  When a spring goes twang and flys off, the bag should catch it.

 - also, try taking photos with your smartphone of each step.  That way you can review the pics and see how things went together.

 - also, as Dirty Harry use to say "a mans got to know his limitations".   For what its worth, people like you were my LGS bread and butter.  He called those projects the "brown bag" jobs.  people would put their gun parts in the brown paper bags and bring them into his shop for him to put back together.  You are not alone in doing this and if you want to take comfort, you will not be the last.

have fun.

First, I counted all the springs being there, too.
Second, it just looks like a hard puzzle to put back together.  It really is much simpler than it seems right now.
Third, do some polishing and part upgrades while you have it apart.  You will really begin to see how all the parts interact with each other while the trigger is being pulled.  You will see how to make a trigger pull shorter and much smoother.
Finaly, you will become even more proficient shooting this pistol after going through this.
