I just bought. Cz 50 .  Incredible 99+ finish and barrel looks like it has never been fired. Can't wait to take to range

I jumped on a CZ 50 as well on Black Friday. If I get something that's 85% or better then the $256 I paid wont make me cringe vs what I paid for my 70 that is around 85%.

Picked up my 50 yesterday and what a disappointment. Paid for the hand select and got a 1968 with pitting on the frame, slide, and barrel. I haven't cleaned up the barrel yet as the 50 is in pieces sitting in paint thinner to clean it up, but it looked to be decent.  Will probably hit the whole thing with 1000grit to smooth it out and use the vinegar treatment to strip the bluing in order to refinish.

I received my CZ-70 a week ago, and even though I paid the extra $20 for a select gun, mine was also a rusty mess. The exterior was pitted and covered with rust, the magazine release and slide release wouldn?t depress without the use of a hammer and punch, and the magazine was so rusty I needed pliers to pull it free. There was rust on the barrel, and inside the slide.

I sent a reply to CF?s ?how did we do?? email, but haven?t  receive any answers, so I?ve been working on it with solvents, lubricants, steel wool, bronze brush, and 500 abrasive paper. This is the third surplus pistol I?ve purchased from CF- and probably the last.

I tried leaving a review twice on their site but nothing has happened. I read others saying they were able to load a mag and go, but mine smelled of cosmo and it wasn't ready to be fired "out of the box". If the price is right I may skip the hand select in the future.

I would suggest you follow up the 500 with some 1000 to finish it off. I got mine soaking in CLP after the thinner cleaning and hitting it with 1000 grit wet paper till the spring time to finish my project.

I?m waiting for a week when I?m snowed in to get out the files and the stones and see if I can at least smooth some of the surfaces. Until then it?s in the safe, well oiled.

I could do more too in order to smooth any rough edges but my garage is not heated.

Update: Classic still hasn?t responded to my polite email, and they haven?t approved my polite but honest review. They apparently never heard the saying I learned when I was in retail: Treat someone well, and they?ll tell a few people. Treat them poorly, and they?ll tell everyone they meet.
