No love for my P-07 (ejection issues)
« on: November 19, 2017, 10:51:22 PM »
Okay, that may be an overstatement. But I shoot at an indoor range a lot. And my empties either hit the top of my head, or smack me in the face. I put a couple hundred rounds through it today, and I found myself anticipating that shell coming at me every time I pulled the trigger. Does anyone else have this issue?

REALLY dumb first question - are they bouncing off the barriers to each side of you? I have had that happen at indoor ranges before. Also, is it only with one type of ammo or all of them?

 😃
JMHO:
If the pistol is ejecting the cases directly into your face,  then you need one of two things:  1.  A lighter weight recoil spring.  2.  A reshaped ejector to direct the cases to the right and back.

If you're firing light loaded ammo,  reducing the recoil spring is the most likely cure.
If you're shooting strong ammo,  then the ejector likely needs to be reshaped slightly.

My question is... how new is this gun? The P-07 is pretty oversprung out of the box and often needs time to break in a bit.

Of course, I usually go the impatient route and order a CGW steel guide rod and 15# recoil spring for mine - that is something to consider.

Depending on your choice of ammo, it may be on the weaker side (much of the range ammo is) so that could also be a factor.

CGW has a good little write-up on choosing a recoil spring weight here that you may want to check out.

Be patient.

Does your ejector have spring in it?  (press it).  If not, you might me missing a spring.

Blast out your extractor or pull it and clean.

Unless you are very experienced with tweaking etc., clean, do the above and try again.

Playing spring mechanic can lead to all number of issues, and likely won't address the real issue.  If it continues, get CZ USA involved.  They turned my P07 around in a week.  That is (in part) why they exist.

I look at CGW like this:  They aren't there to fix broke guns (they do have parts though).  They are there to make good guns better.   CZ USA has CS.

It's new, but I got it the same week as my Shadow 2, and of the 1,000 rounds (115gr and 124gr ammo) or so I've shot in the last week, more of them have been through the Shadow. So maybe 300-400 rounds. I've got 5 other CZ pistols (I think  ::)) that don't have this issue. Pretty sure empties are ejecting straight up, and coming back at me. Never paid much attention the rest, as they don't hit me.

I'll shoot it more, because that's never a bad thing. After 500+ rounds, if it's still and issue, I'll pop the hood and poke around in there.

Make sure the ejector (not the extractor) moves up and down freely when you have the slide off.

If it doesn't, remove it and stone down any burrs that might be on it.

I did have to do a little work on my P-09 to get it to eject properly.  Also, like was mentioned earlier, try a lighter recoil spring or you could get really bold and remove about 1/2" to 3/4" of the recoil spring.  They are sprung pretty heavily from the factory and I did this with mine (P-07).  It racks easier and throws the empties where it should.

What do you guys mean by recoil spring being oversprung by the factory? Is it too heavy? Is the #15 lighter or heavier compared to stock?

The factory is (I belive) something like a 20lb which is much more than needed, many people go to a 15lb

The more details you provide, the more I am agreeing with briang2ad (Brian?) that this is likely an ejector or maybe an extractor issue. Definitely give CZ-USA CS a call - they will get it squared away for you :)

I put another hundred through it today, with the same results. I'll strip it down and see if I can find the cause. In other news, the Shadow 2 has run flawlessly for its first 1,500 rounds. Clearly, getting them both in the same week was a bad idea.

The OP does not state what grain ammunition was being used but I know my PO7 does not like 115gr, I have to use 124gr....

Every other CZ I own favors 115 gr ammo, but I did buy both 115 gr and 124 gr ammo for accuracy testing. I'll run some 124 gr through it, to see if there is a difference.
