Regular CZ 550 rifles
« on: November 30, 2017, 02:36:45 PM »
Looking on CZ's website, they no longer list just normal 550 rifles.  If you want just a normal sporting rifle, you have to buy their push feeder...NOT INTERESTED.

I see some 550's on Gunbroker, generally in cartridges I'm not interested in (I really want a 6.5x55, .257, or .25-06).  So is that a web site oversight, or is CZ only using the 550 action on specialty rifles now?  If so, that seriously sucks.

From what I understand, they are transitioning from the Mauser style action to the push feed.  You can still get the 550's in the full stock line and the Safari Classics line.  For standard rifles, however, the 557 is the direction they are headed.  They are easier/cheaper/faster to manufacture.  Personally, I agree with you and greatly prefer the big claw action.

That's exactly what I was afraid of...bleep, the 550 was the best rifle going.  Real Mauser action and a set trigger available in 6.5x55...I just waited too long I guess.  I'm sure I'll eventually find one used.

I watched that auction with great interest. I wanted that rifle...for 1K. I had to force myself not to get into a bidding war. C'est la vie. :'(
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

Just done with my first trip to the day with a brand new (out of production) CZ 550 American in .30-06.  There were two in town at two different gun shops.  One went away and the other came up on sale, 15% off, and while I was pondering it as a purchase, it disappeared off the rack.  Ten days later my sweetheart laid it across my easy chair.

Great gun, well built, best extractor and single set trigger.  Leupold 3-9/40 sits on it now.

First day on the range it shot just over an inch of inexpensive Federal hunting ammo.

A keeper...
