Barral change -out onet 527 carbine
« on: December 01, 2017, 06:49:27 PM »
Hi guys , Don't know what else to do or try!
I've changed powder, bullets , scopes, can't seem to hit the mark.
 7.62x39 .
I've been using IMR 4198 powder what about the temperature 45 to 48 degrees.
The rifle is two ( 2) years old , got it new. So far I've put about 80 rounds from last cleaning.
 WHAT SAY YOU ALL.
Thanking you all in advance . :(

Did it used to shoot okay?

I generally always clean my barrels after each session - could vary from 20 to 100 shots depending on the cartridge. I don't think 80 shots uncleaned would be all that bad for changes in accuracy.

If accuracy has gone south, suspect something has come loose eg scope/mounts, action screws.

Did you shoot corrosive or "semi" corrosive ammo and not clean? If that's the case your barrel is hosed.

Is it a .308 bore or .311 bore? This really matters!
If you have fired corrosive ammo in it and not cleaned it may be done for. Check the muzzle for damage or unevenness.

As a guy who has loaded for the 7.62x39mm CZ 527M for some time now...might be able to help a little bit. First, bullet fit - .308 bullets will WORK, but they generally won't work WELL. I find bullets that are .310 or .311 work well. Hornaday makes some excellent bullets just for 7.62x39mm, ball, soft point and SST among others. I also use cast bullets sized to .311 with good results. I've used H-4198 with good results, but my favorite is Accurate Arms #1680, which is almost tailor made for 7.62x39mm. The CZ does have a 311 bore.
If you shot corrosive primer ammunition, have you inspected the bore? If you clean normally you should be OK.
Ditch the scope and go irons to reduce variables until you can get the rifle to shoot right, keep it close for starters, I'd say - but, I only use irons with mine anyway, so I'm biased.
Hopefully that will get you down the right path.

What I for got to mention was, when i first get to range, my first shot is right in or 1/2 inch from bulls eye at 100 yards.
 After that everything goes south.

I'm using a number of bullets to see which one will my rifle likes.
I use a .311 bullets by Sierra , I use .310 by hornady and a couple from Nesler.
All the above bullets seem to be all over the target ( 4 to 5 inches ) groups at 100 yards.

I have been working with a CZ 527 American and have a few suggestions.

Does the forend touch the barrel near the tip or is it free floated? These light barrels usually like a little upward pressure about 2" back from the tip of the forend. If its free floated, test by shimming the forend tip with 1 or 2 thicknesses of business cards. It may or may not help. It helped mine.

The rifling is way too fast for any bullets that can be loaded in this cartridge. If a bullet doesn't have near perfect balance, the fast spin will slingshot it away from the center of the group. The name brand bullets from bullet companies (Hornady, Sierra, Nosler) are your best bet for both static and dynamic balance.

The other issue is the C.I.P. spec chamber throat. It is a 3.5 degree taper starting at 0.338" (for a .311 bullet!! ). The only way to counter this is to snuggle the bullet up close to the origin of the rifling - like within 0.010" to 0.015". The Hornady are the best I have found for this so far due to their very long bearing surface. With the 123gr SST rifling contact is around 2.3045" OAL. My magazine won't handle anything past 2.320" so that's what I use. The 123 gr JSP Hornady's have a shorter nose. I load this one to 2.235", which is about 0.010" off the lands. This puts the cantelure only a little out past the case mouth. I suggest you measure your throat before loading as C.I.P. specs are pretty sloppy. I used the Hornady Lock-N-Load O.A.L. Guage for this.

I had best luck with H4198, but others have gotten good results with H335, H322, CFE BLK, or RL 7.

Some combination of the above should get you reasonable groups.

I have M62 valmet in 7.62x39. I am looking at CZ 527 to buy in 7.62x39. Right out of the box most accurate factory ammo I have found, Lapua in Gold & White box (123gr FMJ) nice boxer brass for reloading, Hornady 123gr SST, but is berdan primed.
