A Fix for pesky factory comp hammer pins
« on: December 02, 2017, 10:39:13 AM »
We have designed a new #9 pin used in the factory competition hammer.  We checked a batch of these hammers and we were amazed at the variations in the hole bored at the factory.

The holes ranged from .0885" to .0915", which is a huge .004" difference.  As a comparison, the CGW bored holes in our hammers vary less than one-half a thousand (.0005").

To address the problem our customers encounter when using the factory comp hammer, we have designed a new pin that will "swag" itself handily into the pin bore.

The pin will have a beveled  step on one end, so it will only install one way (small end first) and the step will allow the pin to be driven in for the last .085" for a tight friction fit.  This should be a big boon to the home gunsmith, or the seasoned pro gunsmith.

These will be in production within the next 2 weeks and we should have these available early Jan - 18.

Are these listed on your website yet? I couldn't find them if they are.

We contacted the vendor on these and there was a delay due to obtaining the preferred  material.  They thought they had the correct stock on hand, but did not.

They are running them now, we ordered 5,000 pins and they can produce 500 per day, once all 5,000 are produced, heat treat is an additional 10 days.

Ok. Thanks for the update.
Please let us know when they are ready and for sale. I want to order the IDPA production hammer and the pins.

Scarlett Pistol,

Not a Saint, more like a reformed sinner  ;)

Good news: the new pins have shipped and according to the UPS tracking, we should have them on 1-24-18.  We will first test them in the shop to make certain they will meet our expectations.  If all goes as planned, we'll have them on the website around 1-26-18.

Pins arrived and the work perfectly.  Going to make our life (and our customers) much easier.  We should have them on the website in the next day or so.

We installed several and the even better news is they can be removed, and reinstalled, just like our HPIN's.

Can't wait to try them out!

I know I run into odd things and can get carried away on stuff that isn't major. But I've seen some variance on the hammer pin  (part 18) to hammer fit with the factory hammers and factory competition hammers. Have you guys seen this? Any chance a CGW hammer pin would be in the works for tighter fits?

Sorry for the delay, we were short staffed last week.  These are now available.
