About to buy first CZ 75, a used P-01. About recoil---?
« on: December 05, 2017, 03:32:23 PM »
I never cared for the Walther PPK/S' .380 recoil. Sold it.
My impression was that it seemed really similar to the snappy little Polish P-64.

Does the CZ P 01's wide, long grip make it a bit more pleasant to shoot than those other, smaller guns (I mentioned)?
Having slender hands, my various EG and Bulgarian Makarovs (blowbacks) are much nicer to shoot than the PPK/S.

I've got a P01.  I don't notice it being any "snappier" than the steel framed CZ 75 Compacts I have and certainly not as snappy as my P07 in .40 S&W.

Recently, on another forum, a new P01 owner was complaining his pistol was "snappy."  Most of the folks responding found it hard to believe as they don't think the P01's they own would be described with that word.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

There?s really no way we can quantify the recoil for you.

Thanks gents. Only bought my first handguns less than three years ago, at age 59. Yes---59.

ZanderMan: The seller is an instructor with Israel's special  Counter-Terr. Unit, who visits family in the US, and offers some 1-day classes in various cities.

He's selling me his extra P-01 for only $200, because he Really Wants me to upgrade from my Russian .380 Auto Makarov, considered too inadequate.
My largest handgun chambering--right now-- is 9x18 Mak., in the "East German"/DDR  & Bulgy guns.

For that ($200) price, might as well try it out. Recently retired, so I have the time to dry a different grip if needed, or later even an all-steel Compact.

At that price buy it
Recoil is subjective IMO. Only you can decide how the recoil is. For example I don?t notice much recoil at all, of course I also have two .44 mag Rugers that I like to shoot, soooooo......
    See what I?m saying
Heck, if you don?t like it, I?ll give ya $225 for it

I am 58 years old and shoot my P-01 a lot. The 124 g rounds are noticeably more pleasant than the 115 g.

Not kidding at all about that Israeli guy.

He really wants me to upgrade guns while I work on improving my amateur, totally-untrained, crappy handgun shooting, and he really likes his pair of CZ 75 P 01s.
Most of my shooting is with SKS and several imported AKs: all have iron sights only.

MikeLW: Noted the difference with heavier bullets.

I appreciate everybody's comments. :) It must be Makarovs' lower-power and capacity which makes them unsuitable for most applications.
Imagine using a Mak. in a class with two LEOs, and a D.A. (yes) using Glocks.

Buy the P-01 you won't be sorry. The PPK/S is snappy and uncomfortable mainly because it is a blowback operated action vs locking breach and it also has very sharp corners which tend to dig into the shooters hand. I had a PPK/S that I did a melt treatment on too remove the sharpness and it made a world of difference but it is a time consuming operation and not one for the faint of heart when it comes to grinding on $600 gun.

Bought the gun today! The Perceived Recoil Is Very Pleasant (no comparison with Walther .380 PPK/S).

The only slight issue, despite having a pretty solid grip with elbows somewhat locked, is that several times in approx. 50 rds, the hammer was not cocked when the slide recoiled, then closed (again) into battery.
This was with new Russian Monarch ammo, 115 gr. bullets.

Will try some US-made ammo next. If it still happens, the prev. owner (Israeli instructor Ben Goldstein), who is keeping his other CZ P 01, can solve the puzzle.

sigken:
I gave him an extra $40 for good faith. Both of these small classes--my very first with handguns-- each cost $275 per session.
Just now, for the first time I watched two of his videos: Ben Goldstein, Youtube: "Israeli Combat Tng.com".

A slight finger pressure on the slide seems to be the reason it does Not always Re-cock the hammer, now and then.
Never hurts to let a very seasoned handgun guy try it out.

What a superb handgun! :)
