Yay! It's been too long since we've had one of these threads! Very nice work guys. That compact is going to be beautiful!

Very nice indeed.  Will have to pick up a beater and try that.

Q= what are you using to do the carving/shaping?

Looks nice!
I have a 1x30 belt sander from harbor freight that I used for just a little of the work on the beavertail. I also used it for rounding the trigger guard, that is where it helped a lot.

I cut thin strips from the belts for the 1x30 belt sander and use those curves inside the beavertail and the bottom /front of the trigger guard. I have some aggressive grits that I can use to really remove material. Think of polishing a shoe with two hands, if that makes sense.

A dremel with the sand paper drums. This was used for the bulk of the trigger guard undercut, some of the shaping of the trigger guard after the belt sander, and for some shaping work on the beavertail.

Some 800 and 1500 grit sand paper for some of the sanding.

Okay, saw it in this thread.  Sounds like we have the same hobby belt sander.

Oh, hammer question....If you want that Compact to look similar to the Pre B CZ 75, are you going to put a spur hammer on it, too?

http://shop.cz-usa.com/ProductDetail/0420020011_Spur-Hammer-Pre-B-75

I don't think that hammer fits a Pre B.  It wouldn't fit mine, way too "thin".  The Pre B hammers are wider, at least mine is.  Maybe some of the transitional hammers are narrower (more like the B model hammers/frames/slides).  But, it still looks like a Pre B hammer.  Mine has a very small set of sear notches on the hammer.  Made a very nice trigger.  Exactly 3 lbs. in SA.  But, it's so crisp it feel lighter.  I have to measure mine multiple times to convince myself it really was 3 lbs.

The spur hammer does even more to set the look apart from the standard CZ 75/85 pistols.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Ahh you found it!

I'd love to throw that spur hammer in the compact! The only problem is that I worry about hammer bite. With the new beavertail I can get a high enough grip that the spur hammer on my Pre B drops down and behind the beavertail and hits my hand. It eventually breaks flesh after 50 rounds or so. The Compact will have the same problem for me...  :(

Did a little more work on the beavertail. It's not quite as thin as it look in the picture but the arrows point to the two general spots that got work today. I think I'm on the home stretch and just working out little areas now.

The trigger guard got some touch up, but I don't think it's enough to be seen compared to the other photos.

In the next day or so I'll finish touch ups, get the metal cleaned up with higher grit papers, and clean it out well. Then reassemble and test it out. Oh, in that process I'll pin the sear cage too.

Never had a hammer bite issue.  Not with the Pre B CZ 85 or even with my old 1911 (1917 military pistol) with that big hammer and short grip safety.  Skinny hands, I guess.

I really do like that spur.  Not just for the look, but for the ease of working the hammer when inspecting it or lubing it.  Got one for that second SP01 Compact but I think I'll just save it for something else and leave the one SP01 Compact all original (the one I worked on has a CGW race hammer in it - no use changing that out).

Keep those pictures coming.

Thank you for posting this thread. I was considering doing this to my buds special 75B that will be used for comps this year, but hadn't seen anyone do it. It will be a while before I get around to this modification(more parts/dies and bullets) so I'm marking it for later.

Did you happen to relieve the magwell too? Or is there another thread for that?

Keep up the inspiration!

You'll have fun when you get to it. I haven't relieved the magwell yet. I did on my Pre B project but I forgot to mention it. Just a dremel and some small files will easily do the trick.
