So it was a Balmey 31 degrees ...
« on: December 29, 2017, 09:15:00 PM »
... That was the high for the day, but it didn't stop me from running out to the range to shoot a few rounds from my 805, my ACR, and my last AR they all made the steel sing at 200 ... off the bench. The gong at my friends farm is 8" ... try as I might it was cold enough that I couldn't hit it off-hand with any of them.  It wasn't for shivering, as I was toasty warm in a nice heavy coat, ear muffs and a hat ... feeling the second stage was easy with my gloves, but it was more of a mystery with the Bren. Maybe it was the coat & gloves ... I really think it was because last summer I could ring it at least 3 out of 5 shots.

Still, about 20 rounds each was just enough to scratched the itch!

That is balmy. Reached 10 today for a high. Been below 0 in the morning. Too cold to shoot which is frustrating since I?ve been off work all week. Will be 20 tomorrow. Maybe I?ll try to shoot a little bit.

20 ... sure, give it a go!

Our high today is supposed to be 13 ... high tomorrow is supposed to be 5

That doesn't include windchill ...

On the one hand I'm glad I got out when I did ... on the other, I may give it a go tomorrow anyway! Wether I shoot when I get there or not is unknown!

20 years ago when I shot in CMP Service Rifle matches and it was cold like this in mid-November ... plus we had snow, this has been a dry winter so far.
We used to meet at the range around 7:30 and start a pot of coffee and fire up the club house barrel heater ... walk down range and put up targets, go in the clubhouse and warm up drink coffee and wait for the late-comers to show.  Starting at 9 we'd go out and shoot a string then go in and warm up and repeat until all strings had been shot (positions: Standing (aka off-hand), Kneeling, and Prone (laying down)).   At times we had to run multiple stages because there were to many idiots shooters that showed up!

Ah ... those were the days ... when we didn't know any better!

Now that I'm older I take my dog out to bark-park ... a group of us usually meet about 6am however this year, a couple of our most senior "members" have become "fair weather" members ... if its not above freezing they usually aren't there.

It's miserable right now, a frigid low 70s for a high until the 8th, when it's forecasted to plunge to mind numbing low 60s.  :P

It's rough, I admit it, but we will persevere - have to wear socks with the sandals!

   Ya, what James said
Us MT. boys have to stick together. Although we were only -7 for the high today here in Great Falls. In James?s part of the state they grow ?em a wee bit tougher.
If guns are outlawed.........
