Picked this up a couple of weeks ago, installed the ILWT tri-lug barrel and HBI Micro K handguard last weekend, bone stock fcg, first range trip today.

On the first 20rd mag the first 2 rounds fired just fine, round 3 was a click with no bang.  Primer showed no sign of a firing pin strike.  Tried to fire the remainder of the mag and went through this with at least 7 more rounds.  Never got more than 2 rounds fired before another FTFire.  Next I tried with a 30rd mag and eventually got off 10-12 in a row then back to the same problem.

All the rounds showed a lack of firing pin strike.  None ejected when the charging handle was worked and even when hand cycled the extractor wouldn't grab the round.  Multiple attempts to get a primer strike by recharging and releasing the bolt didn't work.  Ammo used was Blazer Brass that worked 100% in my Rami, P-07, P-09 and Ruger Blackhawk.

My first thought was the hammer peening was causing the problem but based on the pics and threads I've seen here, that most likely isn't the issue (but I can post the pics if necessary).

Now I'm wondering if it's a firing pin safety problem or a chamber issue?  I'm not new to semi-autos but I am new to the Scorpion.  Is there anything else that could cause this that I'm not thinking of?

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

When you replaced the barrel, did you confirm headspace was correct?

No, being a direct replacement I didn't think about it nor did I see a way to adjust the headspace.

Did you fire it before swapping out the barrel?

Well, that?s the first thing that comes to mind for me.  Might be worthwhile.  Just a suggestion.

Unfortunately I didn't and that was the second thought I had when the issues began.  I won't repeat the first thought I had LOL!  I've got all the parts to swap back in but I don't know when I'll be able to get back to the range.

GS, if it was a headspace or chamber issue I would think the failures would be consistent.  Not 2 good shots, 1 failure, 1 good shot, 4 failures, etc.

There are subtle variances in each cartridge too.  Look, your headspace may be just fine, but checking it wouldn?t hurt.  I am unsure what type of go/no go gauge is required for the Scorpion though.

What about the rounds that did fire, did you see on the brass if the primer strike was light or hard?

No worries GS, I get where you're coming from.  I may swing by my local place next week and have the on site 'smith check the head space anyway.

Good question on the fired primers and I have no idea.  I didn't think to look when I policed up the brass.

On a blowback the head space is set from the bolt face to the end of the chamber. There is no adjustment short of reaming the chamber deeper if it's to short or grinding the barrel face where bolt makes contact if to long.

I think you have a rough or out of spec chamber. Inspect the chamber for rough machine lines. Remove the bolt and drop a live round in the chamber. It should fall all the way in and make a "plunk" . You should be able to put your finger on the end of the round and wiggle it around slightly. Whether a rough chamber or bad head space, I would send the barrel back for a replacement.

I've seen ILWT barrels with deeper chambers, the extractor can't grab the case and it's slightly OOB.

Did you clearance/grind the barrel for the ejector?

Nope, I haven't ground or adjusted anything but it sounds more and more like the chamber is too deep.  I did examine the unfired rounds for scratches or gouges that would indicate burrs in the chamber but there weren't any.

Hopefully I can pull the barrel today or tomorrow and examine the chamber for roughness, do the plunk test, etc.

Look at the barrel you took out, pretty sure CZ notched the barrel for the ejector for a reason. May not be allowing your bolt to go into full battery all the time, causing miss fires.

Pull barrel, replace with OEM barrel, test fire.  Rule out any issues with the bone stock internals.

If it works that way then you look at the ILWT barrel to determine issues.
