Mounting Scope
« on: February 03, 2018, 03:34:39 PM »
I have a new 527 Varmit in 204 Ruger on the way. This model does not come with scope rings. I am going to mount a Burris 4.5-14x42 on it. Finding rings to fit a CZ is not the problem, but what height do I need? While the objective glass size is 42mm, the actual outside diameter of the objective is 56mm according to Burris. Do I need high rings, or will medium do it? Thanks

I have a Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32 scope mounted to my 527M carbine using Warne Maxima medium 16mm rings (.425" high).  The gap between the objective bell and the barrel is a tad over .25"  The difference of the objective bell radius between the 32mm and 42mm objectives is roughly .22"  so you may be able to mount the larger scope in the medium rings on your 527.  The high 16mm rings are .535 high, which should definitely work for your application while not raising the scope too high.  It is worth noting that different manufacturers "medium" rings will have different heights.  I've always found MidwayUSA to be a great resource for finding exact dimensions of scopes and rings, just go to the product page and click on the Specifications tab.  For example, here isthe page for your Burris scope.  https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1009282264/burris-fullfield-ii-rifle-scope-45-14x-42mm-adjustable-objective-ballistic-plex-reticle-matte
