P 07/09 mechanism gunk!
« on: January 29, 2018, 04:15:51 PM »
Even when I polish the trigger bar well and other places, the trigger smooths only a little.  BUT, when I hit it with brake cleaner - right at the disconnector bearing - it makes it VERY smooth.  This ought to be added to the sticky for guys seeking a smoother DA.  Works like a champ.

When I put a little oil on the bearing, things get sticky.  When I blast it out, it gets smooth.  Keep it clean fellows.  Enjoy.

That's a recipe for some SERIOUSLY rusty internals. I would NOT advise this.

I run mine well oiled and wet and notice no ill effects other than my guns don't rust and they clean up like new every time. Oil is your friend.

carb cleaner and brake cleaner strip all the protective/lubricating oils off the surface of the metal (as you noticed).

Without those protective oils the metal will rust.  Doesn't have to get wet, doesn't have to be sweated on (worse than just getting rained on) just the moisture in the air will start the corrosion.

Ever heard of triflow?  I used to use it on my stainless steel revolvers.  You could oil them up with 3n1 oil, dry fire them a few times and then spray some triflow inside and feel the difference in the trigger pull and how easy the cylinder turned.

Lube should not be making things more difficult to turn/slide/move.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I'm thinking you have a scored roller or something.  Not that I know much about how clean guns work.

Stock bearing? The machining on them can be rough, per David @ CGW.

I'll second the motion that M1A4ME suggested !  I've come to like Triflow a lot.  Gotta admit I'm probably way too anal about cleaning my guns though.  Since my P07 is my goto home defense choice, I'm even more meticulous. I sure wouldn't want some home invader to get an infection ! LOL

briang2ad--here is what may be happening on yours.  With oil, the roller is turning but the roller has a rough spot so you feel it.  Without oil, the roller doesn't rotate but the OD surface is smooth so you don't feel the rough spot.  You will wear a flat spot on the roller running it dry.  So what you might consider is a good precision replacement CGW roller...and some oil.

Don't get me started on how much powder residue can build up in a pistol before you need to completely disassemble it, clean, grease, and put it back together.  This is a photo taken Sunday of my 75B bullseye match gun frame that I used to win the local January match with on Saturday of last weekend.  I missed the usual December frame cleaning.  Still no malfunctions and no change in trigger pull.  Note, this is NOT lint and NOT dirt or sand buildup, those are different.  This is all powder residue from the .22 Kadet slide, plus a little 9mm residue thrown in.  I've added some light oil periodically but don't ever try to clean it between disassembly because I don't want to push any surface grunge in between the moving parts.  What you see just sits there and doesn't hurt a thing.  The contact points remain lubricated.

My P-09/07 pistols look "bad" too but the buildup on a centerfire only gun is so slow compared to a .22 that I don't worry about them at all.  Add oil, shoot.

Bores, chambers, breech faces, extractors, barrel ramps, slide surfaces, barrel bushings, magazines are different.  They get cleaned and lubed very often.  But not the no load small movement frame parts.

Joe, your ".22" looks like an old Marlin .22 rifle my cousin brought up to the house one day.  It wasn't working quite right and when we took it out of the stock it looked like we could have planted potatoes in that stuff.  Took some carb. cleaner and brushing to get that thing cleaned up.

What would be ideal for me would be microscopic Zerk fittings on the end of every shaft in the frame, and a tiny grease gun.   :) :)

Then I could clean it without disassembly, blow the assembled frame out with air, then use grease to force the crud out from in between the parts and then put the slide on and be done with it.  For another year.
