Alas the money I allocated for the Compact won't hit my account until Wednesday so looks like I'm out of luck on that Gunbroker 99041...I'm kicking myself as I did read the long thread about that unicornish version...that said, apart from the ambi safety (which I DO like as it parallels my DW 1911 Specialist Commander) it's very much like the steel-frame Compact, correct? I know of a couple Compacts near me for under $500, which seems like a good price...

Underwhere, I like all the mods you mention, including sight changes for my old eyes...which extended safety lever would work on a steel frame Compact? And is there a thread about polishing the bits and pieces?

Thanks to all,

Commo

The 99041 is pretty heavy. I generally wouldn't recommend it for carry. Now, I have carried mine... But that was because I loved the ergonomics and shot it very well. I got a nice holster and it was fine.

Your other manual safety compact is the classic CZ 75 Compact. It is steel framed, but not as heavy as the 99041. It has the classic beavertail rather than the newer style beavertail and grip that the 99041 has. The classic 75 Compact was my 2nd CZ. I converted it to SAO because I loved the flat trigger and wanted something like a 1911. I carried it for something like 2 years. In the last few months I did my own work on the grip and beavertail of my classic CZ 75 Compact and it points like my SP-01 now. I think it feels better than the CZ 75 Single Action I got to shoot.

So I guess this boils down to if you are going to carry and if you don't mind the weight of steel, since you're coming from a 1911 background.

As far as the modifications... I always say that the CZ Custom Competition Hammer or the Cajun Gun Works Race Hammer are essential to replace the stock hammer. Polishing the contact points goes a long ways for the feel of the double and single action. From there its a matter of springs and what not. Here is a test I did on all the upgrades and the impact that they had.
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=83591.0

I didn't test things like grips... But if you have medium or small hands you may want thin grips. I would recommend the thin Lok grips.

Underwhere already mentioned the safety. If you do get a 99041 there is a thread with the compatible parts as they are wider on the frame like a P-01 and need a slightly different safety.

My 4 yr old is dry heaving, gotta run. This was a little rushed... so I'll have to jump back on and proof it and see what else I didn't answer. There are lots of super knowledgable members posting answers, so I probably and just echoing them or giving a different take based on preference.

I wouldn't worry so much. The 99041 has been for sale since the middle of December and units have not dried up yet. Every day I still see people selling new ones on GunBroker so you'll probably be fine on Thursday.

As far as polishing goes, there are a few threads. Here is one.
https://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=42537.15

What I polish (but tend to do more than most people)
Trigger Bar (extensively)
Hammer Strut
Hammer Spring outside and inside
Sides of Hammer where it may slide between the frame
Top of hammer where it rides the slide
Hammer pin (goes through the hammer and is the pivot point)
Trigger bar spring
Sides of frame next to the trigger bar
All parts associated with the rail on the slide and the frame
The flat on the slide that the hammer rides on
The firing pin block
The firing pin
The firing pin channel
The guide rod (if metal)
The recoil spring inside and out
The trigger pin (CGW floating trigger pin)
The sear cage
Sear cage pin
The flat part of the frame where the trigger bar rides (under the sear cage)
The sides of the frame that the hammer sits in
I clean up all CGW parts with a very light stone even though I don't think they need it.

Hmmmm there are probably things I missed but you get the drift. Anything that moves that can cause friction I polish up a bit.

I got lazy answering that same question about what to polish and how to go through the process. Here's the videos I made for the manual safety versions. Should cover just about everything. The thread Underwhere posted is by David, the owner at Cajun Gun Works. That is pretty foundational. My videos are just everything I learned from him, Scott, and a whole bunch of the super helpful members here.

You are the reason I purchased a 99021
And then a 99041... And why I call CGW so much.

You are an expensive person to follow online.

O0 O0 O0 O0 Why thank you! I've been told that a lot! Just wait... Have you gotten into modifying your frames at all? The Classic CZ 75 Compact is one of my new favorites again now that I have undercut the trigger guard and re-worked the beavertail and backstrap. It has the ergonomics of the 99021 and 99041 but it is thinner and lighter. You're super practical, I think you would really like it! My only problem is that I don't have the set up to Cerakote, so I have to find a local shop that might teach me how... That will only make this hobby even more addicting.

I have not.
But I'll look into it.
The beavertail and trigger guard do bother me. I have a TIG welder and can add metal should I need to. I'll search for what you've done on the compacts. That intrigues me.

I have cerakoted in the past. My wife got angry about the fumes in the kitchen so I picked up an old free oven on Craigslist and wired it up to my circuit panel in the garage. It's not too bad of a process. You just need a media blaster, spray gun and an oven.

Worked great.

However I do like hard chrome and don't have the tools for that.

If you take your time you shouldn?t need the welder. Here?s the thread. Might help the other member to see more about the classic 75 Compact too. If I had a garage I would go get an oven off Craigslist this weekend!

I like the undercut so much that once I get Cerakoting I am going to do some Work on one of my SP-01 Compacts to get it just about identical to the SP-01. Or even closer to a Shadow 2.

PS I did it to a Pre B first. Once I get rid of the hammer bite it will be one of my favorites to shoot!

Wow, an amazing amount to absorb about these CZ compact pistols! Thanks to all for the generous sharing of your knowledge..

Now all I have to do is get the pistol and start shooting, studying and modding...

Looks like my first CZ pistol will be the 75 Compact as I like the weight of the steel frame and the manual safety. First mod almost seems like it has to be to the somewhat-wider safety, then perhaps sights...

And of course tool acquisition will ensue for polishing and mods..

Just circling back to say thanks again for the advice -- I did indeed buy the 75 Compact and with 255 rounds fired so far am really loving it! I posted in the newcomers section and put a query about bullet weight in the reloading section.

I bought my CZ at the Michigan Shooting Centers store at Bald Mountain gun range north of the Detroit area...also bought my Dan Wesson Specialist Commander there a month or so ago..they have 38 CZs in stock, including another Compact at $489, so worth checking out. No affiliation except as a happy customer. Their web site: www.mishoot.com

With a Race or Competition hammer there are times you can engage the safety when the hammer is at half cock. But even if it is mechanical possible I have been told not to by the likes of CGW and other wise members.

Hi ScarlettPistol, could you elaborate for me? I have a 99021 with CGW Pro.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for this information. I am still not quite clear on where it says The manual safety was never designed to be applied ?up? with the hammer down, whether using OEM parts or CGW parts. Isn?t that a conflict to 1)?

So it should be the following with my added words?

1)  Hammer down manual safety can be applied ?up? but don?t do it
2)  Hammer at half-cock manual safety can be applied ?up? but don?t do it
3)  Hammer at full cock, manual safety can be applied ?up?, but trigger pull w/n drop the hammer which is desired
