Now for something completely different (for me)
« on: February 04, 2018, 01:47:33 PM »
Well, I mailed off my P-07 frames to Nick @ NAF Solutions to be stippled... I've been following his work for a while and he has some discounts and promotions for 2018 that finally brought the work I wanted down to a price I could afford. He quotes a turnaround time of about a month - I will follow up here with pics as soon as I get them back :)

In the meantime I am carrying and training with the P-10C. I'm able to use the same mag carrier I normally use with the P-07 but am using the Armordiillo LUX holster for the gun - I got it as a training holster for use with various other guns that I don't carry  as long they have an X300 mounted (i.e. anything with a rail that is not a P-07 LOL)

Overall it works pretty well - it definitely gets points for versatility! Up to now I had not carried extensively with it, though, and right away I noticed it needed some velcro and padding to be comfortable... I am also not in love with the belt clip. It holds fairly well but is nowhere as secure as the split loop on my regular JMCK carry holsters. I also find myself really missing the claw...

Oh well - nothing like trying something different for a while. :)

Mag carrier make? How do you like it? I hate the retention on my current and need a new one.

That particular one is from T. Rex Arms but several makers do something similar. (Shooks Custom is another good example...)

I wear mine IWB and really like the design.

What position do you carry? I've been carrying my P-10 since I purchased it in an OWB Kydex holster at 4 o'clock.

Appendix ... always appendix.

I did carry behind the hip for about a year (when I started experimenting with carrying a striker-fired gun with a weaponlight) but I found it awkward, slow and sometimes painful LOL  I have long arms and a short torso so drawing from behind the hip put a lot of pressure on my shoulder and required me to lean to the side.

Yeah, weird, I know...

Anyway, since switching (back) to appendix... no more pain and my draw times have dropped to reasonable levels and are much smoother.

That's interesting. I recently started carrying appendix with my Springfield XDE and was surprised how much I liked it. Unfortunately I do not have an IWB zero cant holster for my P-10 yet. It fit perfectly in my OWB Glock Kydex holster so I have been using it. Will probably purchased a new holster for my P-10 so I can carry appendix. BTW I sold my Springfield XDE and bought the new Sig P365 for which I did order an appendix holster. Will rotate between the P-10 and the P365 for daily carry if I like the way the P365 shoots. If not, I'll just stay with my P-10 and let my wife have the P365.

Interesting is certainly one way to describe the travails of my life ... hehe

Seriously, with the right kind of gun (*cough* TDA *cough*) AIWB is a dream IMO. Faster draw, the option for a more surreptitious draw, more control over the gun, easier ergonomically, more feedback upon reholstering, etc.

Yes, it is relatively harder for some to conceal but a lot of that comes down to using a good belt, a purpose-built holster by a maker that understands AIWB instead of off the shelf items designed for the, uh, uneducated (no slur - we've all been there... but some manufacturers prey on that, unfortunately) and modifying the wardrobe slightly. These days I choose clothes that I know will work with my mode of carry and I don't feel the least tinge of regret about it. I see them as "clothes that are designed with my lifestyle in mind" ;-)

I've handled and dry-fired a few different XDe pistols... they had a hard time measuring up to the CZ bar TBH. Too thin for me, too, but I can see the appeal for others.

Curious, why do you prefer the loops over clips?

Curious, why do you prefer the loops over clips?

This style of ?slip over? clip tends to flex too much and, since I wear a fairly thick belt (Volund Atlas G-hook) I end up fighting to keep the holster in place if I?m moving around a lot.  The soft loops don?t pop loose.

I actually prefer a solid or split injection-molded loop to the soft loops but, even so, the soft loops are a huge improvement over the clip that came with the LUX.

I also prefer loops over clips - they hold better. See this Down Under by high Noon with my venerable Phantom.

Even the Close Encounter I like has at least a single loop - shoulda gone double, but it works. :)
As for appendix carry - with my fat gut that wouldn't work at all, no way, no how, not unless I was carrying a pistol about the size of my thumb.  :D
That green padding is quite the thing, amigo, pretty cool work around.

The cannibalized camping pad has worked out really well. I?d tried several prefabbed foam wedges but they were expensive and not really what I was after. The only downside with the camping pad is that it does wear out  over the course of a couple months of daily carry so I do have to redo it regularly but fortunately the roll was cheap - I probably have a supply for decade LOL

Gotta get me a Phantom one of these days. I miss my SP-01 every now and then and a Cajunized Phantom would fill that space nicely.

That's the OLD photo - she is Cajunized now.

Though she was quite photogenic back in the day. ;)
