Updated MantisX training aid and plans for use
« on: February 06, 2018, 08:29:38 AM »
I misplaced my MantisX device for 6 months, finally found it last weekend.  During that time, the software has been updated on my i-Phone.  I have also bought and installed two short pieces of railing on the bottoms of my magazines for the 75B and 97B"E".  It looks like all of my training wants for use of the device have been addressed, with the biggie being able to mount the MantisX on my bullseye guns and not just the P-09/07/P-10C.

I installed the device on my 97B early this morning and monitored about 50 typical dry fire hammer drops, average a little over 95.  The software improvements on the phone apps are significant and the device is much easier to use now.  It's easy to delete unintentional traces due to hammer cocks or mag insertions also.

So, my plan is to dry fire the 97 and 75 bullseye guns with the MantisX device for feedback, see how much I can improve my trigger pulls, and then get some data live fire using the MantisX, video, etc. to see if improvement is possible.  My hope is that the feedback will help me increase the number of 95+ pulls and help get my average up, and that the improvement will be reflected in live fire.

More over the coming weeks.

This is fun.  This is not easy.

The background post is in the archives.  Here is the link.  Screens are different now on the i-Phone app.

I started using one of these on various railed pistols about 4 months ago and really like it.

The diagnostics seem to be geared towards one-handed bullseye shooting but I still find the feedback useful. Just simply being able to identify how a good shot "feels" is invaluable.

Because a lot of bullseye shooters wanted it that way!!   :) :)

I've seen they now sell magazine baseplates for some pistol models that don't have rails.

I'm sort of curious though, will the thing get consistent readings whether it's attached to the rail in front of the trigger guard, or under the magazine?

Joe, did you make an adaptor for the CZ 75 magazine, or buy it?
Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.  So, if you see me walking the dogs with my SIG 556R, its okay.

Readings seem to be fine with the MantisX mounted on the rail glued to the magazine base plate.  I bought the rail sections from MantisX to use on the 97 and 75 but you could get a section at Academy Sports and hacksaw a short piece to use.

I borrowed one from a friend to try it out. Installed the Android version of the software 2 weeks ago (or so). I can only remove an error on the Open Training mode. I actually contacted Mantis about this (on a Saturday night) and within about 20 minutes had a response recommending that I point the muzzle down when manually cocking to prevent the erroneous "shots".

Worked fine after that, so I will be ordering one this week.

Also heard today that they just updated the software, so that might have been a response to my email.
