Removing handguard on "Flash Can" Pistol
« on: February 06, 2018, 11:54:36 PM »
Hey guys, I'm getting one of the pistol models with the long handguard and flash can:

But I'm thinking about swapping out the long handguard for the short version. Does anyone have one and can confirm that the long handguard is easily removable? Do you need a special tool or just a 21mm socket if you've got the 7.7" barrel? Also, is the flash can a PITA to get off?

I can't say anything about the flash can model other than that I love the one I have. But I do have experience removing the faux suppressor and carbine hand guard to install a pistol length guard with the fake can.  I just used a strap wrench and made a long socket to get the nut. I don't see why the flash can would be much different.

Sorry the picture isn't better.

That's exactly what I was wondering, thanks. Did the loctite give you any problems?

I had the trunnion clamped in a vice and used a good strap wrench so it was not bad.  If it is causing you a problem then try heating it up if you get it hot enough it will let go.

Do you still have the long socket you used? If so, any chance I could borrow it? I don't feel confident in my tool-crafting abilities  :P

It is just a socket I cut in half and welded a piece of pipe in the middle.  I am sure if you talk to any vocational highschool program they will make one if you supply the material.
