Got my Vortex Venom Today
« on: February 08, 2018, 11:18:12 PM »
I'll be sending off the slide from my beloved P-09 in the next couple of weeks, to Primary Machine to have it milled.  I know there are other vendors out there, but the fact that Raining Brass hangs out here made my decision easy.
Now, the tough part.  What color to choose for the slide.  My gun is FDE so I'm considering Burnt Bronze but am open to suggestions.  What say all of you??

Also, I'm assuming my night sights will be in the box when it is returned to me.  I'll put these on my P-07.

I'm interested in all of your thoughts about color.  I intend to have the Glock dovetail cut in behind the red dot and will add irons later.

Sights will be returned.
Burnt bronze is actually a cool color with FDE.

I'm not sure it is an option through the aftermarket refinishing services yet but I really like the look of that white nitride with FDE on the new P-07... ;-)

Really? I think the slide finish is great, but ugly on that FDE frame. lol
I think it would have went 100X better on a black frame or possibly even the UG frame.

I agree. I really like the white nitride, but not a fan of it on the FDE frame. I've never seen white nitride before though. Think it'll be an option at Primary Machine soon? Definitely prefer nitride over cerakote, but the colors are so nice :D

Burnt bronze should be good, though it is common. Depends on how unique you wanna be!

There is no accounting for taste, my man :)

I didn't love it at first sight but it has really grown on me. I like the UG thought too!

Well I reserved my final opinion for after I saw it in person. And after seeing it at SHOT Show I didn't care for it on the FDE frame. Nice finish though for sure.

Honestly I'm not 100% sure how much longer we'll be offering nitride. We may be switching to DLC soon in it's place since that's the route we're going on our P-10 barrels and it's an incredibly nice finish!

Fair enough - I haven't seen it in person. Maybe I won't care for it then either.

Is DLC the same as IonBond? I was under the impression that nitriding was somehow a better finish (or maybe just a cheaper one LOL) ... Thoughts?

They're both great finishes. But DLC can't be touched as far as hardness and lubricity in comparison to nitride. Nitride is pretty hard as well, but not nearly as hard as DLC and doesn't have the same great lubricity. Not to mention nitride isn't as good for corrosion. It will rust in humid cliamtes if it doesn't have a light layer of oil on it.

Nitride is still a great finish and certainly will always have it's place on certain parts where it's not necessary to have the added cost of DLC, but overall - DLC > Nitride.

Go with the bronze, will look awesome.
I am VERY interested in the white nitride finish as well, looking forward to selling enough blood plasma to get one. Am I supposed to be this dizzy all the time....?

Oooh. DLC is great... Someone posted a SVI Infinity in DLC, and that was absolutely gorgeous!
