Sp-01 "short throat"
« on: February 13, 2018, 03:43:57 PM »
Thanks for taking time to read this

Im thinking about getting my first cz the sp-01 suppressor ready tactical, but after reading about peolpe having issues with there guns failing to go into battery apparently chased by OAL of the cartridge I'm now wondering how big of a deal is This? If I bought one it will spend alot of time with my rugged obsidian can on it so it's gunna have to eat alot of 147 grain loads

Are there any factory 147g loads that your gun always eats perfectly

Are there any specific 147g rounds or even certain bullet shapes you stay away from?

Sort of a Diffrent question but is anyone running cheap steel case plinking ammo like wolf 115g?

The short throat is an easy fix, most gun smiths can extend the throat by 0.050" for about $10-$20 and you will be able to use any ammo you want.

Never even considered that man I really appreciate it

Chances are this is a dumb question but is there a reason cz sells the gun this way in the first place

The Eastern European weapons are designed around BALL ammunition. NATO RN types are the standard.
Most brand name RN 147 gr jacketted/plated bullets can run fine.  Those with blunt nose shapes, FN, HP may not fit the chamber or need to be loaded to very short OALs for those types.
If you're using commercial ammo,  ask around before you stock up.  If you're a reloader,  ask to buy some sample bullets before you stock up.

Hope this helps.

I haven't run into any mine or my buddies wouldn't graciously feed and eat. I've shot factory 115's, 124's and 147's from various makers and 1,000's of 115 RN and 124 FP's reloads without a hitch.

Tolerance/QC variation?

In 11 CZ?s, I have yet to find one with a tight or short chamber/throats.  I?m sure they are out there and common enough to get attention, but I think you hear more about the short/tight throats because fewer people complain about a gun that feeds everything...

My CZ 9?s have all not only fed any factory 147gr ammo, but have performed best with 147?s.  Heavy rounds that are tight in my HP?s plunk right into my CZ?s.

The only problem I have had is with handloads specifically loaded for a S&W 59 with an extremely long throat. Without using longer col and fatter bullets its accuracy is noticeably poor.
