Horribly Influential!
« on: October 18, 2005, 03:35:27 AM »
Alright folks, I have a bit of a problem.  I really want a CZ 40P, but I don't think that the boss will allow that purchase right now without me giving up another of my "children".  My options are as follows:
I don't really need a 40P (Yeah, right)
I could buy and not tell (Risky, but worth it?)
I can sell and buy (Not what I really want)

So, the question to y'all is this, is the 40P really great or am I going to be plagued with problems?

Also, if I have to sell, what should I sell?
Beretta 92 compact, Glock 22, Witness 10mm w/ carry comp.

Any words of advice are welcome and I am more than willing to sympathize with fellow troubled buyers.

Of the guns you've got to sell, I rather have them than a 40P.

I'd much rather have a 75 Compact in .40 than a 40P.  (If only to avoid the decocker.)

Do you recommend this because of the decocker only, or because of the possible problems?  I haven't even handled a 40P yet, but they just look nice.
Your input is appreciated.

What would you be using the 40P for? The only purpose I see it for is carry only. The alloy frame bucks pretty hard under recoil. I'm thinking of getting rid of mine for the all steel SA. I certainly wouldn't trade the 10mm for a 40 short & weak.

I definitely see your point on the 10mm.  I also have a75BD that I carry that I will NOT part with.  Either the Glock or Beretta would go first because I prefer a DA/SA to a DAO and the 75BD does everything the Beretta can, but with a better feel to me.

1911 Terry, have you had any problems with your 40P?  If so, what have they been and what would you want for yours?

There is also another option in obtaining what you want called "Collective Bargaining".  It may cost you some jewelry or the choice if where you take vacation or some such thing, but it may get you another pistol.  Definitely do not do the "Buy and don't tell"!  Woman have a built in Psychic Radar that tells them when the game is afoot, and you will be in  trouble for sure, when discovered!  It will not be a matter of IF, but WHEN.

Of what you have mentioned, I would get rid of the Glock 22, but only because I do not particularly like Glocks.  Of the Plastic Pistols, I'm partial to the Springfield XD's although I don't own one, as yet.  Been thinking about a new Witness P Carry in .45 ACP, but have not yet succumbed to the temptation, as I'm quite happy with what I have now.  (Unusual, but true.)

Any small .40 will be a handfull to shoot.  Perhaps you would be better off with a full size .40 CZ75B or Full Size Steel .40 Witness, if concealment is not a concern.

I would not get rid of any of those guns to get a .40P. Especialy the Glock or 10MM.

EZ CZ75, I've had absolutely no problems with the 40P, except the the green paint dots falling out of the rear sight. Fixed it with some white model paint. The pistol is just to light to my liking. I'm contemplating looking at trying to trade it for possibly a Sig 229 or a CZ75 SA in .40 and offering some cash.

The solution is simple.  Do not sell any of the above mentioned pistols, they are all good.  Retain them all.  Go ahead and purchase the CZ40, its an exceptional weapon and worth the sacrifice, budget permitting.

Find dirt on her wasteful spending habits relative to clothing and use it to justify the purchase.

The spending habits are the problem.  Even though I work and school full time and have little time for spending, when I get around to it I can go through a lot in one day.  She does it over a span of time so I have no recollection of what she spends things on.  KPIII, I have actually done what you suggested and started to budget (hoard) away money that my wife doesn't know about that will hopefully acrue quickly.  It will either go towards a gun or an Alaskan moose hunt.  Decisions, Decisions.

Thanks for all of your input.  The 40P I was watching was sold, so the world is safe for another day.

And again, thanks to you all for being horribly influential.

I guess I am a PIG because I am married and very much so and if all the responsabilities were taken care of I would buy it if finances were in order and I wanted it. Do things for you wife out of the blue with nothing conected and buy a gun out of the blue once in a while with nothing conected. It is honest and just.
