Recommendations for upgrade parts for a CZ 75BD
« on: February 15, 2018, 01:46:51 PM »
Hello everyone.

I have a CZ 75BD I got a few years ago from what I believe was a batch of police trade ins.  I am looking to do some upgrades and am looking for some suggestions/advice.  I am mainly looking to reduce the DA pull and reduce the SA pretravel.  I don't mind the SA pull as it is.  This is primarily just a range toy that may someday wind up being a nightstand gun or similar, but I don't compete and don't plan to carry this pistol.  I've already talked to the CGW guys a few times, and it sounds like there are several things I could do.  I'm looking for input on which of these you guys have done and how you like them. So, as I see it these are the options

Option 1:
SRS-1 with T2 disconnector

Option 2:
RRK +/- modified disconnector for srs?

Option 3:
Something else?

I'm hoping to keep this to about $100 in upgrades.  I get I could just do the Defensive Carry package and get everything, but that's about double what I'm looking to spend. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be welcome. Thanks.

A spring kit would meet your needs.

DA pull weight:  lower the hammer spring weight.  Came with a 20# hammer spring.  Try a 15# spring.  This will lower the SA pull slightly,  but increasing the trigger spring weight a skosh will compensate if needed.

SA pretravel:  get a new trigger with a pretravel adjustment screw. CGW also can machine a pretravel screw into your trigger.

I have done these to my 75B along with the CGW short reach kit and they work as advertised.

I prefer the 13# hammer spring, but side effects include: somewhat lighter SA pull (3# +/-) and the risk it won't fire hard primers like the Russian or CCI versions.  Or Not. All other American made ammo should fire reliably.
An extended firing pin restores the ability to fire everything.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input. So maybe dumb question, but what triggers can you buy with the pre travel screw in place? I know the SA trigger has one and I think there is one in the reach reduction kit trigger. Any others?

The 85C has only a pre-travel screw.......the 85 "Old Style" has pre- and over- travel screws, same one as in the RRK's also has a slightly less curved trigger face than the 85C

I though the 85c "old style" only had the over travel screw.

From cgw's page:

This is a faithful reproduction of the ?old style? 85C trigger.  The O/S trigger is straighter than all CZ triggers and has a very comfortable contoured finger pad on the trigger face.  Made in the USA from Stainless Steel, finished in an attractive matte.  Fixes ?trigger Bite? the small black re-curve is known for.  Includes only the SA over-travel screw.  Upper trigger area is drilled and tapped to accommodate the CGW Reach Reduction System

I think where the confusion comes from is that in post #5 you said the 85c trigger comes only with ?pre? travel screw. Pretty sure you meant ?over? travel screw. [emoji6]

Ajssbp, if you read the bottom of the description of the ?old? style 85c trigger you copied, you?ll notice that it comes with the over travel screw, but is pre drilled for the pre travel screw. IIRC, they don?t sell it with the pre travel screw, because you also need the modified disco for the RRK in order for the pre travel screw to be of use. [emoji6]

^^^^^ what cntrydawwwg said ^^^^^

We only supply a single screw when you purchase part number 75585 since you must have a matching disconnector to use the top pre-travel screw.

Trigger with the disco is our RRK or RRK-T2.

Just to follow up for anybody in the future reading this, I called and talked to David some more and what I settled on is doing a SRS-1 kit and the T2 disconnector.  I got them installed this past weekend and they are certainly a BIG improvement.  The DA is really nice now with the lighter weight hammer spring, the reset is noticeably shorter and the pre-travel is almost entirely gone in SA now thanks to the new disco.  There is maybe 1mm of pre-travel, the remainder before you hit the wall is lifting the FPB.  It's very nice, big improvement over before.  If anybody is thinking about just doing the SRS, do the T2 disco as well, it's an extra 5 min of time and makes the SRS kit even better.
