CZ 70 yes or no?
« on: February 19, 2018, 08:33:07 PM »
Hello,

I am considering buying a CZ 70. The problem is I have owned one before.  The one I had was NIB and was the best pistol I have ever owned that couldn't fire and entire mag. I worked and worked on that gun until I finally gave up and sold it. Out of the box the trigger felt like it was full of sand.  After lots of polishing of the trigger parts and a Herrington firing pin it was much better but it still malfunctioned all the time.

When it did fire it was fantastic fun to shoot.  I am very tempted to give another one a try.  Did I just have a bad one or can these ever be trusted as a self defense gun?

Mine works fine, but I don't carry it. I remember reading that de-cocking is unsafe with the Harrington parts.

I've got one...flawless after a couple hundred rounds..and a Harrington. Yes, still a bit heavy on the double action, but I am used to it. Shoots well, see my post in this section... BTW...decock does NOT work with the Harrington pin...no matter to me, I do not use that function anyway. Safe, or fire. Just a thought...wonder if reaming out the firing pin chamber might help with the"grittiness"... Had to do a bit of that with the Harrington to make it work properly per instructions on the subject.

After finding a used CZ70, I did a lot of research before firing it.

I ended up putting in a Harrington firing pin and polished the hammer stalk (reduced trigger puller substantially!).

I found that it was very picky about ammo.  Now I only fire Sellier & Bellot in it and haven't had any problems.

It seems that the .32 ACP length and case rims are different enough in Europe to make a difference.

BTW...don't even think about putting US hollow points in the CZ70--you'll end up with rim lock!

Ja, and hollowpoints not known for reliable expansion in this calibre... Stick to Euro sourced FMJs...bit heavier round, and a bit faster...

There is a difference between American 32 acp and European 32 acp.   The European barrels are .308 and the American are .311.  I resize bullets to .309 that I used my Europeans.

I found a pretty decent CZ70 and bought it. It seems like it is well broken in and the trigger is surprisingly smooth compared to my last one which was NIB.  This new one has an excellent bore but the finish was pretty worn but no real pitting.  I have it completely stripped and am going to re-blue it.  I am debating on which new grips to get.  Wood or factory?

If you are going to the effort to re-blue, then you should go with wood.

I am leaning towards the klinsky wood grips.

Klinsky is great... Took about 10 days from time I ordered to delivery, and they fit like a glove...and look good!
