TSO 40 and add 9mm barrel
« on: February 21, 2018, 05:20:06 PM »
I'm looking for a new 40 TSO but want to be able to also shoot 9mm at the range.  How can I swap out a 9mm barrel in the 40 TSO slide?  where do I get the barrel and do I need other parts like bushing. guide rod or springs

You?ll need a barrel, mags and a recoil spring (load dependant, but likely).

I?ve read various opinions about how well 9mm will work in a .40 slide.

It is the same with the Tac Sport. You just need a 9mm barrel, 11 pound recoil spring, and 9mm mags.

However, I have found that there usually isn't enough tension for 9mm with the extractor. So I lightly file the inner leg until it held the 9mm against the breech face with the barrel off. I have zero problems switching back and forth.

I have a TS in 40 and I recently did the 9mm conversion (9mm barrel, 10#recoil spring, 9mm mags) and I am happy to say she runs flats, returns fast and shoot accurate. Shot ~150 rounds today all in pretty quick succession with no issues.  If you are on the fence - do IT!

Any reason why it should be an 11-lb or less recoil spring when shooting 9mm as opposed to a 13-lb, which runs fine in my 9mm Tac Sport Blue?  Is there a specific difference in mass between the .40 and 9mm TS slides?

I thought the 9mm TS had lighter springs, 10-11#.  The 40SW has the 13# spring.

BUT if it seems to be working fine for you, then probably no need to change it!

Yeah the 13# with a buffer has run flawlessly with pretty soft-shooting 147's in 9, so I'm inclined to stay with that for 9 and maybe step up to 14 or 15 for .40.

That?s exactly what I need if they ever get them in stock. I emailed them asking how often they come in. Hopefully they get them in soon.

Could it be that going all the way down to 11# on the recoil spring is to offset a generally heavier (like 18#) hammer spring since the SAO trigger isn't as affected by hammer spring weight like a DA/SA?  I stuck with an 18# hammer spring in my TS Blue because going down to 15# started to feel less distinct on the trigger break without really feeling much lighter.

I installed my extra CGW 13# main spring on my TSO 9mm along with the 11# recoil spring. The 11# spring works well but I?ll try the 10# since it works on the shadow 2 better than the 11# recoil spring.

This Friday, I?ll be installed my extra 10# recoil spring to try it out. I installed a 10# recoil spring on my shadow 2 along with CGWs 11.5# main spring.
