Barrel Throating

My 75 compact has the notorious CZ short throat. All my other 9s can handle 1.15 - 1.20 OAL no problem. I don't like loading a bunch of different lengths so my standard now is to load for the CZ length. I haven't been all that pleased with my reloads since switching to the shorter length, so I'd like to get the barrel throated longer. Any suggestions for someone reasonably priced that I can send it to for the work? I really don't trust any of the "gunsmiths" around here - too high of a Bubba factor.

CZ-USA, if you bought the gun new, might do it for nothing.  Depending on what they say and if they want to charge you for the work, you can also call CZ Custom or CGW to see what they would charage for the work and shipping it back to you.  You know they'd all do it right.   

The bright part of all of this is that you can just mail the barrel to any of the three using First Class (or Priority) Mail.  It should be pretty reasonable. 

The Priority Mail flat rate small box, is $7.20, with tracking and $50 insurance.  (I just did this with some magazines, and the Flat Rate Envelope might be even less.)  If you make the insured value $100 or $200  it'll add several dollars to the total, but would likely still be around $10 or $11.

I had thought about CZ or CGW but hadn't contacted them. Turns out that a couple guys at the club have used Patriot Defense and been very pleased with their service. Price isn't bad - 40 bucks with return shipping. Anybody here use them?

There's a guy Beven Grams in Costa Mesa CA who does this usually in 1 day turnaround. You can search for Grams Engineering.
In the beginning of 2017 he did this for $20 and $9 return shipping

He did the work for my Tanfoglio barrel.

Check with CZ-USA before you do anything... as you only costs THERE might be shipping, and the work done is clearly under warranty.

Well I wish it was under warranty, but I doubt they'd warranty a late 90's surplus pistol.

Yeah the reamers aren't expensive and I thought about doing it myself. But I've never done one before and this is not a barrel I want to screw up.

I talked to Patriot yesterday and the guy seemed to know what he is doing - very familiar with the short CZ issue. So I packed it up with some dummy rounds and off it went (doesn't cost me anything to ship UPS through work). If all goes as planned I'll have it back by the end of next week and will report back here.

Well I certainly can't complain about Patriot's service! I sent it out last Friday, UPS next day. I received an email from them Monday afternoon that the work had been completed, and received it back today. Their work looks good, but the real test will be this weekend when I hit the range (hopefully).

Copemech. is that for a hand reamer or do you need a lathe or other machine?
