Marlin Camp Carbine .45

Anyone have one?  What are they like?  What are they worth?  What kind of accessories do you have for them?  I am thinking about getting one.

I have the 9mm version of the Camp Carbine and am planning on mounting a 2.5x Scope on it.  The Camp Carbines use Scope Mounts for the Marlin 336.  I have a Redfield Scope Mount that I am planning to use on it.

I have heard good things about the .45 Caliber version and they use 1911 magazines.  One of my shooting buddies uses Wilson 10 rounders in his, with no problems.

I have the 45 Camp Rifle.  It is sporting a Millet Red Dot Multi-reticle.  I also changed the springs and put Wolff recoil springs in it.  It tamed it just a bit and allows me to shoot some heavier loads.  Great rifle.

Unfortunately I talked about it and the one I was thinking about got sold.  It had a red dot sight on it.  Crap.

Sorry you missed out.  The velocity on the 45ACP really steps up in that long barrel.  It is a relaoders dream.  Changing to a slightly slower powder to burn longer and get more velocity.

Sorry you missed out on that .45 Camp Carbine, but as Marlin made a lot of them, I think you'll find another one!  The only reason I don't have a .45 Camp is because I already have a very nice Mark 45 Carbine (semi-auto M1 Thompson lookalike).  Shop for a Camp Carbine in very good to excellent condition, only!  I've seen a few that were not treated well, but the owners of the .45 versions seem to be more respectfull of theirs than the 9mm owners.  Just a trend I've noticed.

Weemsf is correct that there are velocity gains to be had from handloading for one.  +P loadings with fast powder often yield an additional 250 to 300 fps over a standard 5 inch pistol barrel.  +P loads with slower burning powders such as HS6/W540 or Blue Dot often yield an additional 400 fps over a 5 inch barrel.  Some times more.  The Marlin Barrel may be even tighter than that of my Mark 45 Carbine and yield even higher velocities.  Hope you find a Nice One!

Have not heard any complaints about them and the one's I've seen appear to be well made.  I've thought about one of these for myself and would probably build up a separate 1911 frame for it.  No experiance owning one, as yet, but I say "Go For It"!

That set up would be cool in .45super without the stock and the maximum leangth pistol barrel. I still like it how it is though.
