Got a new SP-01. Should I swap out stock sights?
« on: March 01, 2018, 07:15:29 PM »
Relatively new member.  I always wanted a CZ and finally picked one up a few months ago.  I (think) I really like it but need to shoot it more.  The trigger is something I'll end up modifying by either sending it to CGW or doign it myself.  For now I am wondering if anyone upgrades their sights?  This gun will be mostly range and perhaps competition pistol if I end up getting into competitive shooting.  TIA!

the stock sp01 shadow fiber is a 1.5mm - pretty large.  Dawson .1mm + trigger work rocks for 25 yards and partial targets. You can always melt the fiber a bit bigger if you miss the 1.5mm

He doesn't have a Shadow. He's asking about a standard SP-01.

I went with a set of Dawson fiber optic front set for my SP-01 which I set up for IDPA/USPSA SSP/Production because I'm so used to those sort of sights on other competition guns.  But I put Mepro night sights just like stock SP-01's on my PCR which I carry.

FO pros:
1) great for quick acquisition, so very popular for competition.
2) Very bright in daylight.

FO cons:
1) Not visible at all at night, even with a flashlight or other light (at least not to me).
2) They can, and do, break and fall out.
3) Very tall front sight post typically.

I was in an indoor steel plate match last week and I noticed # 1 this as well.  I had just replaced the FO sight on my Shadow 2 with a green Fiber (the red one fell out as it also did on my buddies ) and it was nice and bright.
Inside the range under much lower lightI felt like I almost had to point shoot. the thing disappeared.  :(
make it criminal to own a gun and only criminals will own them
