Don't understand the negative feedback on the DW 1911, possibly there were some problems early on that have been resolved.
I recently did a lot of shopping for a 10mm 1911 and chose the stainless DW Pointman and being an old tool & die maker and shade tree gunsmith I am picky as hell with the machining, fit and finish on my guns. My experience is that it is far superior to anything in the price range and better than many costing much more. I paid $725 out the door from a dealer. Less than a Kimber or a SA.
Slide to frame fit was the tightest of anything on the market. Zero play. Before firing I actually pulled the barrel, oiled the rails and sat and worked it back and forth about a zillion times to lap it in. After firing 150 rounds it is slick as glass and absolutely tight. Wear and rub markings are evenly distributed all along the rails, no high spots. Barrel lockup and fit is also tight and flawless for a production pistol.
Pistol came with coco-bolo checkered grips that look like they have been custom fit. All machining is perfect, fit, finish of every part is likewise. Comes with Wolff springs and the recoil spring is just right for 175 gr. Silvertips and hotter ammo. A bit stiff for reloads and weak ammo which do require a weaker recoil spring.
Shoots to POA at 25 yards with elevation on the Bomar style rear sight centered. Comes with a high quality Metalform mag, trigger pull is very light and smooth out of the box.
I looked at stainless Kimber Target II pistols and to me the finish is so crude they look like they have been bead blasted with gravel. Slide and barrel fit is not to be compared to a DW, not to mention the plastic backstrap on the Kimber. DW is checkered steel.
I haven't seen anything better than my DW Pointman except the custom shop pistols.
