Any of you guys with Dan Wessons or that want them. Do you think that an economy priced CZ-USA marked DW would sell well?

I love their looks and the bob tail or what ever you call it but the commander sized one I looked at was almost $900 and that is what I can get a Kimber for. I am not saying they are not quality but without the name being established I think it will be hard to move them at that price. Now for $700 I would have realy thought about the one I looked at and for $600 I would have got it.

I paid $550 for a brand new DW PM7-S two years ago. Now they want close to $900 for the same gun. I won't be buying another one at those prices, I don't care what brand name they slap on it.

Yes, I think they would sell very well!  Should be able to compete very well against the lower cost Springfield Armory 1911's.

I agree, they are phenomenal guns, but priced out of the market.  They need to be in the $500-$800 range.

My Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II was less than $700 new. While it may not necessarily be a better 1911-style pistol, it does have much better resale value than a DW 1911. IMHO, DW has a long way to go before they can seriously expect people to pay those kind of prices.

Very well said!,  I have shot Dan Wessons and I don't think its in any way better than my Kimber., and I have the Custom Stainless II base model, and I see no reason to pay $300-$400 more for a gun that is not that much superior if at all.

2 years ago I bought brand new DW Patriot in SS for $650, it took me 3 month and over $200 to fix all bugs the gun had. May be now they fixed all of them themselves and that's why price is higher now :lol .
I sold the gun and bought Les Baer...
Considering new DW prices purchasing Les Baer makes even more sense now(IMHO)
BTW I was trying to sell my Les Baer to finance STI and fortunately changed my mind.
Stay safe,

Out of curiousity,  how are Dan Wesson sales since CZ took them over?.  Also,  1911 sales vs. revolver sales?

Don't understand the negative feedback on the DW 1911, possibly there were some problems early on that have been resolved.

I recently did a lot of shopping for a 10mm 1911 and chose the stainless DW Pointman and being an old tool & die maker and shade tree gunsmith I am picky as hell with the machining, fit and finish on my guns.  My experience is that it is far superior to anything in the price range and better than many costing much more.  I paid $725 out the door from a dealer.  Less than a Kimber or a SA.

Slide to frame fit was the tightest of anything on the market.  Zero play.  Before firing I actually pulled the  barrel, oiled the rails and sat and worked it back and forth about a zillion times to lap it in.  After firing 150 rounds it is slick as glass and absolutely tight.  Wear and rub markings are evenly distributed all along the rails, no high spots.  Barrel lockup and fit is also tight and flawless for a production pistol.

Pistol came with coco-bolo checkered grips that look like they have been custom fit.  All machining is perfect, fit, finish of every part is likewise.  Comes with Wolff springs and the recoil spring is just right for 175 gr. Silvertips and hotter ammo.  A bit stiff for reloads and weak ammo which do require a weaker recoil spring.

Shoots to POA at 25 yards with elevation on the Bomar style rear sight centered.  Comes with a high quality Metalform mag, trigger pull is very light and smooth out of the box.

I looked at stainless Kimber Target II pistols and to me the finish is so crude they look like they have been bead blasted with gravel.  Slide and barrel fit is not to be compared to a DW, not to mention the plastic backstrap on the Kimber.  DW is checkered steel.

I haven't seen anything better than my DW Pointman except the custom shop pistols.

I suspect the DW 1911 went through the same sort of "teething" problems that SIG's GSR went through.  All fixed now, but some early owners are still grumbling.  And their experiences are recounted and recounted and retold, etc., etc.

Few "new" guns come out of the factory without some problems.

That's why I typically am not a "new adopter" -- I generally let others be the guinea pig.  (My one exception: CZ-40B, which I later sold.  I'll probably get another one, one of these days.  I just wasn't in love with the .40 round; the gun was great.)

Ditto on that about the .40s walt. I thought about selling my 40B and getting another CZ however I love the gun itself to much and my wife likes her .40 couger (It recoils more like 9mm) so I thoght I would keep it. I am glad I did. I do not care for the flip .40s give though. Recoil does not bother me much like on .45s but I do not like a lot of flip.

I was very mad at CZ for stopping production of the 40 .
It was one of the finest pistols ever made, but as I understand it there were some contractual challenges with Colt, and if there is potential litigation with Colt, then enough said. LOL
I think it was a horrible mistake to get involved with Colt,  I hear from many gunshops that Colt is a nightmare to deal with.,but I have never had to, never owned a Colt product, probably never will, overpriced as heck.
