Preparing for AWB II with the Scorpion EVO 3
« on: March 07, 2018, 11:41:34 AM »
I couldn't help but notice that the Scorpion pistol and all of its variants were included in the recent AWB legislation proposed by the Democrats, and while I don't think that this one is going anywhere yet, I do think that at some point they're going to ram it through, and likely without a sunset. Assuming this to be the case, and assuming that existing weapons are grandfathered in, I'd like to prepare for this eventuality by stocking up now on whatever I might need to keep it running for the foreseeable future.

Obviously, as many mags as possible. That's a given. And ammo, of course.

Beyond ammo and mags, what parts would you all recommend that we stock up on? What parts are most likely to break or cause malfunctions due to normal wear and use? I'm a recent owner and only have about 1k rounds through my gun, and I have yet to encounter any gun-related issues (only mag issues so far), so I'm not really familiar with this weapon's likely points of failure yet.

Are there any parts kits you'd recommend? What parts are most likely to wear out first? Most frequently replaced parts?

Thanks for any suggestions. Link to legislation here for anyone who's interested: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/5087/text

There's nothing wrong with having this conversation, but I think you may be overstating a few aspects.

Politically speaking, Republicans have (thankfully) moved very far to the right on guns since the time of the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Moreover, while the NRA and other groups made several legal challenges to the '94 Ban, none were made on 2nd Amendment grounds. In other words, the NRA was so terrified that they could create negative case law that they avoided invoking the 2nd Amendment at all. Since that time, we've had Heller and McDonald, which represent tremendous hurdles for anti-gunners. We're also awash in state-level politicians with balls enough to sue the feds.

But even disregarding all of that and assuming that a new ban comes down the pipeline, I can't imagine your Scorpion will require a stockpile of maintenance parts.

Again, it's a neat topic to discuss. No disrespect intended.

I would stockpile recoil springs, what round are you more likely to burn through more often? Probably 9mm especially if you have a suppressed scorpion

For every 5.56 AUG mag I shoot I usually shoot x5 mags through scorpion
For every 7.62nato M77 mag I shoot I probably run through 10 mags in the scorpion

That volume of fire coupled with the suppressor screams new recoil springs to me as well as extractor/ejection parts.  I opted for the the free trigger pack upgrade pretty much just for spare parts

Maybe having an extra barrel wouldn?t hurt

Always stockpile mags, 1 is none and 2 is...if you have a scorpion and you only have 2 mags you clearly need to re align priorities  ;D

My rule of thumb for mags/ammo/parts is that I want enough to last my life time as well as my kids incase things get hard to acquire.  If/When I accomplish that goal then on to perspective grandkids, we most always think of the future and set up the following generations for success

Still have everything I stockpiled during the last episode.

Forget the scorpion, I would stockpile AR lowers and 5-10-20-30-+ Ar Mags.  They could pay for your kids college if anything gets passed.

Good luck with that.  The run has already started on lowers and cheap AR's.

I'm good on the ARs, got everything I need to keep several running indefinitely, with enough mags and ammo to last for the foreseeable future. I'm just new to the Scorpion platform and was wondering mainly about likely points of failure and parts most likely to need replacing due to normal usage.

So far, recoil springs, extractor parts, and likely a replacement barrel are on my list. Anyone got anything else?

All of the new proposals prohibit transfer so they won't be worth much till after a SHTF event at which point college probably won't be a concern.
