A quality SINGLE STACK 9mm Compact....a rarity these days
« on: March 13, 2018, 06:35:24 PM »
So after waiting years for CZ to fill the niche of a single stack 9mm, I started an arduous search for something to fit my requirements.......what I came up with wasn't a "new" firearm though it was/is NIB, but rather from a by gone time......though, as I came to realize, still highly sought after even today.  What is it........a S&W 3914 mine in DAO....no safety or decocker, again perfect for what I wanted...3.5" barrel, capacity is 8+1, 1.1" wide, 25 oz., 3 mags, production factory bobbed hammer.  Some info to give a frame of reference is as follows: smaller/lighter than a DW Guardian, larger than a Sig P938....so right in that pocket I didn't think I'd ever be able to fill.........here are some pics of my holy grail  ;D

How much does it weigh?
I had the right to remain silent...

The old 3rd gen S&W's were/are great guns. I still have a 3913 hanging out in the safe.

THAT is a find! Especially NIB.
Hammer fired, and DAO  Really nice.
DAO is no problem if you're used to shooting revolvers, and I too would prefer over the slide mounted safety/decocker. Sweet!

A couple years ago I was looking at every gun shop and show for a Gen 3 CS9 9mm Chief's Special.

I gave up and settled for a Sig 290 rs DAO.  Bobbed hammer, excellent sights and surprisingly accurate. It works fine for me as a pocket carry, but I'd trade in a heartbeat for that 3914.  Good to know they're still out there.  8)

This particular S&W DAO should be the only one in the 3rd Gen line with a re-strike capability, I seem to recall. They are nifty compact size pistols with the single stack. The primary complaint for most is the magazine safety feature in the 3rd Gen S&Ws. And to think, these were still being made as recently as 3-4 years ago and known as 3914s for the NYPD since being on the approved list for off-duty/plainclothes (not sure if that?s still the case). They have a nice DAO trigger and do the job well for close range use. This one?s from the Houlton, ME plant.  Congrats on picking one up!

Here is my carry - CS9, another 3rd gen S&W, the only one that has an alloy frame. I went through the same journey as you did to get to this. I would?ve gladly taken a 3913 or 3914 as well, but this one presented itself at the right time. There are also the TSW models, which are very highly sought after by collectors. Congrats on that fine weapon of yours

It?s 7+1 9mm, and it?s easy for me to shoot in DA. Once I ditch the factory hogues for some slimmer grips like what came on yours, it?ll be even better. I just have to mod them a bit. I do wish CZ would produce a single stack Rami type model, I would like to be first in line for that one

Oh Yeah, that CS9 is a little peach!  +1 for a CZ single stack DA/SA! Mini-Rami.  :P

I picked up this little guy last week for my CC pistol, Kimber Micro-9.

I only had it one day before I had to perform my range qualification so my shots were not as tight as would have I liked, but I still easily passed.

 :)

Congrats on the Smith, definitely a nice find. Enjoy it in good health.

I would also like to see a CZ single stack sized between my Glock 43 and old Sig P225.

Appreciate everyone's inputs......I spend a fair amount of time just looking :o on line and in gun shops, mainly to just window shop......but occasionally I come across one that draws me in sort of like this one.  For me "different" is the sweet spot, but its still has to be practical and functional.......all those conditions don't come together often, sometimes I get inspired and create that combination.....but its still cooler to just happen across that combination of things.  :)

Same search myself. Stepped down to a Sig Sauer P238 HD .380 which I added Sig Xray sights, extended 7 round magazines. Tried a Glock 43 rental, did not like trigger or sights. Found a Talo Glock 43 Proglo with Ameriglo iron sights. Replaced trigger with an Overwatch Precision TAC trigger which has a flat face and shorter reset. Replaced base plates on magazines with Pearce PG-43+1 base pads for a better grip and one extra round to make 7 round magazines.
