I'm working on a compact which will be going out to hard chrome soon.

I need to do all my metal work before it's sent out so I'm going over the gun to see what I'd want to change.

I already cut the guide rod so it's flush.

I'm considering the slide stop lever as well on the right side of the frame ... And then give it a bevel. I've seen this on some 1911's

Anyone try it? Regrets?

That looks like it sticks out pretty far.  Is that a CZ 75 slide stop?  Or a CZ 85 slide stop in a CZ 75 frame?
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I believe that's a factory cz75 compact slide stop in a compact.

It was a surplus gun. I don't know the history.

I'm thinking of doing this.

Cut the slide stop and chamfer the frame.

Didn't know about that. I should look into it.

Is this just for aesthetics, or is there some other reason (for a CZ specifically, I know why it is done for a 1911).
Purely aesthetic.

I use the nub as an index point for my trigger finger but other than that I only see it useful to aid in removing the slide.

It's a bit of an eye sore.

They ran a special on FB a few months back. A lot of pretty guns came out of that deal, didn't see any posts from dissatisfied customers.

You're right.  I don't handle a straight Compact much.  Mine is modified to use the CZ 85 ambidextrous safety and slide release so I'm used to looking at that.  I just checked my wife's Compact and the darn thing does stick out way farther (maybe) than necessary.  Then again, it may be that it sticks out enough to make it easy to push it far enough to get it to release from the spring that holds it in place inside the frame.

Shortening it will be a small "custom" touch to your pistol but may make it a little more difficult to field strip.

Considering the reports that CZ's will occasionally break the slide stop, do you think you should buy a spare and have it hard chromed, too?  And just put it away as a ready to go spare so it would match the rest of the frame/parts?

That's a good idea.

Honestly I don't shoot my guns much. It's unlikely to break sitting there collecting dust. Maybe someday.

I think I'll try cutting the slide stop tonight.

I wish I could spin it in a drill somehow. Not sure yet how I'd bevel the cut edge evenly.

I definitely have a problem modifying things.

My babies took a nap at the same time today. I snuck down to the basement. I don't have the best tools to do this work but it turned out well. I set the slide stop just a tad below the surface of the frame to recess it.

I don't have the slide right now so no full frame pics.

Interesting note: the left side of the frame is already beveled.

I think I prefer this to the protrusion. Much more so when I send it off to hard chrome.
