RAMI 'modified' BIG DOT sights for sore (old) eyes!
« on: March 17, 2018, 03:44:43 PM »
Here's a tip for guys looking for faster target acquisition with their RAMI.
I tried a set of XS 'Big Dots' on my RAMI BD.  The front sight is great and so quick and easy to pick up, but the rear 'dot-the I' is too goofy for me and so radically different from my other handguns, my shots were all over the place. Maybe with a lot of practice they might work; but I came up with a better solution that works for me:

I got to thinking...I had an extra P-07 rear tall suppressor night sight left over from RDS milling, that just happens to fit the RAMI rear dovetail. The tritium bulbs are nice and big on the CZ SR sight, and the RAMI rear sight is also a bit taller novak-style anyhow. And because the front Big Dot is also taller, after a few measurements I thought I could make it all work.

I took a machinist's file and carefully cut the rear notch lower and wider to allow a bit of light around the BIG DOT.  Bingo!   Sight picture is similar now to my other 3 dot irons but much bigger and more visible. No problem now shooting a ragged hole in a 3" circle at 10 yards. Necessity is the Mother of Invention!

I'm working on RDS too, but for now I've got good irons on my sidearm that these 'ol eyes can see.  A 'sight for sore eyes!" O0

Very smart idea. I may do the same. Is the green center on the big dot front a night sight?

Yes, the green center of BIG DOT is a tritium night sight. Ditto for the P-07 tall SR rear.

I wish XS would sell just the front only, but I had to buy the set, and just didn't like their 'Dot the I' rear iron.  So many CZ owners are milling their SR P-07's for RDS there's probably plenty of 'extra' rear sights around.

That's a good point, I bet there are a bunch of rears out there.
