Pictures are huge - how to resize
« on: March 18, 2018, 12:52:30 PM »
How can I resize images, posted by others, on the forum so they don't appear huge?

I've searched the forums, read through the Important Information thread and even SMF User Help but can't find a setting to reduce posted pictures in size so they aren't huge.  Many, or most, pictures are so large that I have to scroll the page way down to get to the bottom scroll bar on the pic then move around the pic as though I'm using a magnifying glass.

In many other forums the pics are thumbnail size or slightly larger and have a yellow bar above them which allows you to view the pic full size if clicked.  Is this a feature I can enable here or does it require that the poster attach an image with this enabled?

Sorry if there is an easy answer which I've overlooked but my search efforts have come up with nothing.

As far as I know, it?s all on the poster to correctly size their pics.

Yep - pictures are hosted on another site, CZ Forum is only lnking to the image. If it's a big issue (pun intended)...download the image and modify to suit .

Thanks for the replies.  I was really hoping there was something missing which could be done on my end to change it.

When someone posts link to the image it is possible to modify/add WIDTH property inside  [ IMG ]    [ /IMG ] block. I normally set WIDTH=1200 which will fit the screen of most of devices. (Image taken with a modern smartphone usually has WIDTH of 3000 or more pixels).

That's being said, image hosted on other site can be huge, but before posting link everyone can specify width to be displayed in browser window and it would be automatically resized. You don't need to specify HEIGHT, it would be automatically adjusted.

Rcher is real close
Depending on the size of the original pic, the width may very
Here's my typical post: [img(space)width=950]http://i1108........./denstinettm14/CZs/CZ75BSemi-CompactDouTone-2.jpg~original[/img]
Note the ....~original[/img] at the end
The addition of ~original will allow you to post from Photobucket without having to be a prepay customer
Hope this helps

I usually do this:

Code: [Select]

That makes the image display smaller and makes it a clickable link to the full-size image ;-)
