YouTube is getting rid of gun related videos....
« on: March 22, 2018, 10:36:59 AM »
I'm not sure if this is the right section, but thought I'd bring it to attention. YouTube is changing its policy, and is going to be getting rid of a lot of firearm related content.

Since there is a lot of valuable information on various CZs on YouTube maybe we should think of a way to archive these videos on this site before they go away?

You should probably provide a link and comment on what ?getting rid of a lot of gun-related content? means.  If they?re not getting rid of ALL gun-related content, I can?t imagine that videos on how to install your favorite CZC or CGW aftermarket parts are going to be on the chopping block.

While the details are still vague, the policy is open ended enough that I wanted to bring attention to it in case installing CGW parts is considered "manufacturing" a firearm.

Those are precisely the ones that youtube wants to ban.

No, Youtube is banning videos regarding firearm accessories and modifications that allow or simulate automatic fire and videos on how to build firearms outright.  That does NOT encompass how to install CZC and CGW aftermarket parts.

Manufacturing has a specific meaning.  Installing a CGW part is not manufacturing a firearm.

Or you could keep using Youtube exactly as you have been. ;)

Sooner or later they will ban all gun content. After all, one grocery store chain is banning any magazine that has pictures of guns. My guess is the current anti-gun virtue-signaling frenzy is all the impetus they need to do it sooner rather than later. I wouldn't underestimate the fanatical, near religious zealotry of gun control fanatics...

Somebody is going to get rich very quickly opening a site called GunTube !!

The Hicock45 traffic alone will bring the advertisers.

At this point I don?t read their policy such that any of our pistol modifications would be deleted. Right now my low production quality CZ videos are getting about 4,000 views a month. If I have to take them off YouTube I?ll find somewhere else or just get some hosting and post them into the same thread.

Their goal is to halt the spread and growth of the gun culture and I think they will do it. I also think pistol modification videos will be affected because they show how to 'manufacture' an altered or improved firearm - maybe not banned immediately, but eventually. Before it's over all gun videos will be off YouTube in my opinion - barring some legal remedy,  effective boycott (or the threat of a potentially effective boycott), or the threat of a viable new entrant/competitor willing to host gun videos.

Manufacture:
Noun
1. the making of goods or wares by manual labor or by machinery, especially on a large scale: the manufacture of television sets. (many guns have been made simply by assembling parts either locally obtained or from overseas)
2. the making or producing of anything; generation: (producing anything - like an improved trigger)
3. the thing or material manufactured; product: Plastic is an important manufacture.
Verb
4. to make or produce by hand or machinery, especially on a large scale (doesn't exclude small scale).
5. to work up (material) into form for use: (filing new or old parts to fit or perform better?)
6. to invent fictitiously; fabricate; concoct: to manufacture an account of the incident.
7. to produce in a mechanical way without inspiration or originality: to manufacture a daily quota of poetry.

Their definition of a particular word will fit their agenda.

Full30 is a great site but I would prefer a site where there were many things other than JUST guns, thats the nice thing about youtube it you can surf many topics depending on your mood. Too bad I will miss it .......... okay I am over it where do I go to watch suppressed full auto super killy bumpstock clip-a-zines being made?

Reading the language of the policy suggests that this is a CYA move on their part regarding illegal gun-related activities and content (even if it is just illegal somewhere) ... and really just a statement on paper since there is a lot of illegal content on YouTube that they do not bat an eye at. I'm sure they will put teeth into this, though.

The real problem for gun folks, as I see it, is that the YT mods will exercise little if any effort determining the validity of reported videos and will just issue strikes on anything that looks even remotely close. Three strikes and a channel is effectively shut down.

I can say that my little channel hasn't been touched yet. Full30 is growing, but I suspect due to server size so far, it's by invitation only. Perhaps in the future, if they make enough money, they can expand. InRange actually posted some videos on PornHub. Unless you have a strong stomach for odd porn I do not suggest you visit. It is also possible tha PornHub, surprisingly, (or maybe not), is a video giant close to YouTube, might cut loose some server space for a family friendly space for gun videos. Maybe.
I heard of some others, guntube and two I can't remember, but I don't know anything about them.
