Red Dot Sight's (Info Wanted)
« on: March 23, 2018, 05:41:07 PM »
Has anyone put either a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 Red Dot or a Bushnell Incinerate Red Dot on their EVO?

I'm looking for a budget red dot sight just for indoor range shooting.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I recently put a Romeo 5 on my Evo carbine using the low mount and it co-witnesses with the original sights.
Using a laser bore sighting tool, it only took minor adjustments to get it 'close'.
The automatic on/off feature of the Romeo 5 is nice as the prior sight I had installed (Vortex Sparc) was somewhat difficult to turn on and off.
When testing the Romeo vs the Sparc (I own both) the Romeo seems to be a bit more sensitive to glare from off angle lighting but this is very slight (the Sparc shows none).

Unfortunately, due to other priorities I have not yet been able to actually test the Romeo 5 under live fire.

Steve

You get what you pay for.  If you are just plinking at the range every so often I suppose they?re fine.  Other than that they?re junk and won?t hold up to any kind of hard use.

The Romeo 5 is junk and won't hold up to any hard use?

Maybe you haven't seen this YouTube video yet.

Dude theyre made by holosun in china.

Now that sentence right theyre might make you think junk but i have multiple holosun made sights on everything from ak pistols to pistol cal carbines/sbrs after 10s of thousands of rounds they work like new. Withthe exception of scope cap springs wearing out on one but who gives a......

Yes aimpoint and trijicon are great and I own several of those as well but not everyone can afford to put a $500 optic on basicaly a budget pcc.  For the price the holosun or holosun made sig romeos are bleep hard to beat.

I woud rec a romeo 4 over the 5 though if you can swing it budget wise, more features and nicer overall.

Ahh, the old you tube torture tests.  I?ve seen enough of them fail working for an agency.....perhaps they were all lemons.  Hey, whatever works for you.  There really is no need to defend your purchase to me, as I could care less one way or the other.  Someone asked and I answered.

He asked for budget indoor range use...I guess that now implies a $500+ optic... ::)

I too would recommend a Holosun, Sig Romeo with a Vortex Sparc or Venom (Rmr) as 3rd & 4th options on a budget conscious basis.

for use on budget models i've tried both Romeo 5 and Vortex Sparc

i prefer the sparc for its AAA battery and attached lens caps

if planning for hard use, save for an aimpoint or trijicon

I have a primary arms red dot, they go on blemish sale every now and again for $70 which is a steal for a solid red dot.  Mine stays on the scorpion and conwitness with irons, the only problem is I think my dot drifted to the right last time out.  Guy there with a holosun did the same.  Sight drifted enough to the right.  May have been weather conditions or something.  My buddy has 2 primary arms red dots he stuck on an AMD-65 AKM and a SAM7R.  They have held up to a couple years of abuse and maintain zero fine.

No need to get offended.
Simply was responding to your rather broad brush claim that they would not hold up to any kind of hard use, which was unsubstantiated in your initial post.

Can you recommend a reliable, low cost red dot other than those the OP asked about?

Steve

I went with the new Vortex Crossfire Red Dot - lifetime warranty and only $129.  It came with a Skeletonized Mount that allowed me the option to place it up high so that the factory iron sights were clearly visible at all times.  So far I'm very happy with it and it works well - http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/crossfire-red-dots-2-moa

I'll post some photos in a post below.

Yeah the primary arms are pretty good aswell "also holosun made" i usually watch youtube reviews to get a general idea of a products features and quality,  but i dont base my purchases off of them.

The items sent off for review are usually hand picked by the manufacturer or dealers so there is less of a chance of something going wrong, also half the time the reviewers are sponsored by the manufacture of the product their reviewing so you got biased opinions.

Lol well aside from specifically asking about the Romeo line it seems to fit his criteria.  They?re affordable, work pretty well, and have a very impressive battery life.  If a guy were considering a Romeo then they?re probably also looking at holosun and PA, which apparently are all made on the same line go figure.  So if your looking at all 3 then you have a great chance of scoring a great deal on a solid budget optic
