CZ magazine questions

I understand that modern production magazines are supposed to be too big to fit in a Pre-B.

However, I bought several modern production CZ ten round magazines and they all fit my Pre-Bs.  I also bought an 18 round CZ magazine and it also worked like a charm.

Now I bought a Shadow 2 and it came with three Mec Gar ten round magazines.  (These magazines have the blue follower)

Anyway, the Shadow 2 Mec Gar magazines will not fit in my Pre-Bs.  But the CZ ten rounders will fit in the Shadow 2.

The Shadow 2 magazines will also fit in my Norinco NZ85B.

I'm a little confused.  I guess the answer is to take the guns to the gunshop and test the magazines and their fit before buying them.

Even though they are manufactured by Mec-Gar, current CZ branded mags should work in pre-B guns. Mec-Gar branded mags are produced to slightly different specs, and won't work.

I.e. 10,16 and 18 round mags purchased from CZ should be good to go.

I have a 16 rd. MecGar that works fine in two pre-B pistols, one an 85 and a 75.  I have another MecGar mag that will work in both but is a bit snug.  No general rule to my experience, just depends upon the variance of the radius formed on the mag body and manufacturing tolerances of the particular magazine.  My advice is to take your pistol with you when shopping for mags.  I still have a stash of Bruno blue box mags from 1992 for full size and Compact both.

Not all Pre B?s will accept modern CZ mags. Some will only accept CZ 18rounders. Some will accept all. Some will accept Mecgar mags, some won?t. It?s kind of hit and miss. There is a sticky in the smithing section that shows how to modify the magwell to accept all CZ and Mecgar mags.
