Question about my new P-09 and missing lanyard loop on mainspring cover

Hello,

I just picked up a P-09 and was attempting to switch out the backstrap.  The first thing I noticed is that my gun doesn't have a lanyard loop at the bottom of the main spring cover, it's just a flat surface level with the rest of the handle.  All the videos of the P-09 I see on youtube show this lanyard loop and it's used to push the main spring up to easily remove the pin holding it in place. I was able to remove the pin with a punch successfully without the loop but I'm unable to get the pin back in because I can't push the main spring cover far enough in to get the pin started through it.  Why does my P-09 not have a loop and how do I get this pin back in without it?  Thanks!

Most do not have the lanyard loop. It may have been standard with the "Duty" model.

CZ USA could probably get you one.

To install the pin that holds the mainspring housing cover you need to press HARD in order to overcome the mainspring or hammer spring tension. I press mine down on a table with one hand sink the pin in with the other. You'll have to properly align the mainspring housing plug as well.

Have a workbench?  Have small flat piece of wood?  Get a round head wood screw and screw it into the wood. 

Place the indented center of the main spring plug on the center of the round head wood screw and push downwards against the head of the screw (make sure the hammer is down/against the frame/slide to release the spring pressure and make it easier to compress the spring).

When you push down just a little the pressure comes off the pin and you can push it out easily by hand with a punch of the right diameter.

Same for reinstalling the pin. 

I bought my lanyard loop plug from CZ USA.  Shipping will make it ugly.  Order some additional stuff to go with the plug to make the shipping cost worth the shipment.

Thanks, that makes sense it only came with the older duty version.

I was finally able to get the pin in but I needed to put a small watch battery between a folded towel and press it up against that to get enough movement to start the pin.  Also it went flying a couple times while trying this and I'm lucky I didn't lose anything

Thanks for that tip!  Very good idea and I will definitely do that for next time I need to remove it.

I wish they would have had female grooves in the mainspring housing and male groves in the plug so orientation requirements were wholly removed from the equation when reinstalling.

Still a *remarkably* simple design. It reminds me of a 1911 in that regard yet you have true double action & dec0cker.

Man one little slip and that spring is going flying though.  Hope you wear safety glasses doing like that too lol

Even with a slip it doesn't really jump out hard.  Pretty easy to do.
