I picked up a TSO 9mm to shoot in Limited minor using exclusively American Eagle 150gr Syntech. My first USPSA I came in 11 out of 36 and was very happy with the results and the gun. I'm disappointed in the factory magazines with plastic base pate as one opened up and splashed everywhere when it hit the ground and the others started walking off. They all have Springer base plates now (5 140mm and 3 factory size). I live in NY so I'm limited to loading to 10 even though I'm exempt from the laws and carry 20 round mags. Knowing what I know now because of the restrictions, I would have been better with a Shadow 2 in production. But I absolutely love my TSO and will travel out of state for some "real" limited matches. I will eventually get a Shadow 2 (CZC Bull shadow).

Did you buy your TSO used? Reason I asked is because the TSO comes with the orange aluminum base pads on the mags from the factory.

I have a TSO and Shadow 2. I shoot my Shadow 2 in Production while I used the TSO in Limited minor. Since I just installed a Romeo 1 on my TSO, I will be using it in CO.

I reload using 124 Gr FMJ with 4.1 Gr Winchester 231 with PF at around 128-130pf. Flat shooting and felt recoil is minimal. I?m also using 10# recoil springs on both guns.

Wow, you use a 10# recoil spring?  In the TSO, do you keep the stock (around #18-lb IIRC) hammer spring?  I did for my TS Blue because a 13-15# hammer spring was too light/soft on the break, and I currently have a 12# recoil spring.  Have the 10#'s been reliable?

Your ammo is going to determine recoil spring function. What is reliable for him may not be reliable for you.

TSO with an optic will put you in Open.  Carry Optics is constrained to production approved guns, and total combined weight of gun+optic+empty mag of 45oz.  Shadow 2 is just over the weight limit but I've seen some guys put some light weight stuff on so it squeezes under the weight limit.

Good point.  So far been shooting Freedom 124 and 147 which are both pretty soft-kicking, and it's been fine.  I just wonder how 'low' you can go on the TS recoil spring since my hammer spring is so 'heavy' at 18#, or if that even factors into things like felt recoil.

Hammer spring weight won't make a drastic difference. Should be okay with the 10# spring. I know some people go even lower.

Yup. 10# recoil spring on the TSO and Shadow 2. Soft shooting and flat with no muzzle flip. I reinstalled the stock hammer spring. I tried my spare 13# hammer spring with the 10 and 11# recoil spring. It shoot s good but the trigger was ?mushy? with the softer hammer spring so I reinstalled the stock hammer spring.

I tried the stock hammer spring with the 10 and 11# spring and I like the softer felt recoil and less muzzle flip of the 10# recoil spring better.

Just found out also after reading the USPSA CO rules that to shoot in CO, the gun has to have the ?optical sight mounted on the slide between the rear and ejection port.? Guess I?ll just use the TSO in 2-3 gun.

Have you read "How to Select a Recoil Spring" (probably not the exact title) from. Cajun Gun Works? It's quite helpful.

It was new and the extra magazines is what I'm referring to (not the factory TSO metal base ones). I don't think you can shoot CO if your red dot is not mounted to your slide.

Well not just that... the TSO isn't production legal and therefore isn't legal in CO.

TSO & TS are only for Limited, and no serious Limited shooter shoots minor PF.40 caliber only, if you are there to actually compete. The recoil difference or added mag capacity of 9mm doesn't come anywhere near offsetting the lost points from minor scoring.

Shadows are for production division, or Carry Optics with a slide-mounted dot.
I recommend you let your favorite pistol determine which division you pick.  Or, if you are super-competitive, choose the division with the most local shooters classed A, M or GM.
