Kadet kit FTF on CZ 75 P01
« on: April 19, 2018, 11:22:54 AM »
Have a Kadet 2 mounted on a P01 Omega.
I am having a FTF about once every five rounds... (light strikes).
The round will eventually fire with a second or third DA trigger pull.

So is it the mainspring or the firing pin that needs changing?  Other suggestions?

thank you.

What hammer spring are you using? Typically you want a 17# or higher. What ammo?

The OEM hammer spring, CZ 75 P-01 Omega 9mm, not sure what that is?
Ammo, just what I grabbed, Remington Thunderbolt .22lr.

Before you blame the conversion, try it with different ammo (CCI is normally OK).
Let's just say I have had a less than stellar experience using Remington .22 ammo in the past.

Clean the firing pin channel recently?  I?ve had good luck with thunderbolts but they do run dirty. Maybe some gunk preventing good FP movement. And you say it?s got the factory spring. I don?t know the P-01 but I don?t think they?re lessened as the OEM.
I recall an old post about someone with FTF issues and I think it may have been an Omega as well, but I think it sounded similar to an issue I have sometimes on my 75 Omega convertible. With the hammer back in SA mode I?ll squeeze the trigger and instead of firing it?ll at like I?ve pressed the decocker. If I relax the trigger the hammer will rest and be ready to fire in DA mode. If I just continue to press the trigger it?ll fire like a DA pull. It doesn?t fail to fire, it just intermittently fails to fire as an SA. This is only an issue on the Omega trigger group. If I run this on my pre-b there?s no real issues but for maybe a 1% fail to feed and the occasional round that needs a double-strike.
Anything like that or is the hammer fully falling and just failing to ignite reliably?

Ok,

I gave the Kadet Kit a thorough cleaning, with some extra attention to the firing pin and the channel.  I could detect no burrs and it floated freely in the chamber.

I tested again with the Remington Thunderbolt and also some CCI mini-mags.  Same result if not worse.  Running about a 50% FTF in SA.   Could get the round to fire DA after 1-3 attempts.  Two rounds failed to fire after more than 3 attempts.  On the positive side it is a REAL good trainer to see if one jerks the trigger  :) LOL.

I will invest the time to figure out how to post some pix of the cases and strikes.  Appreciate any help.

What is the next step, call CZ support?

thanks!

These 2 rounds never fired, even after reloading and multiple DA attempts.

These rounds all fired, though some took multiple attempts in DA, the single case was reloaded and fired on second attempt.

Certainly looks like a good dent. Is the hammer spring original?

Yes, the hammer spring is original to the pistol.

Some of the deep dents are a result of DA after a prvious FTF in SA.

I think I will fill out a CZ warranty request tomorrow.

If those rounds did not fire, then they're bad rounds.

How many of the rounds that didn't go off are CCI, and how many Remington?

CZ will want the host frame to see if there's a problem.

I don't think you have a gun/kit problem.

My thoughts, too, Painter. Those look like some pretty solid hits. Old ammo?  Really old ammo that?s been stored under less than ideal circumstances?  Has this same ammo been tried with vastly different results in another firearm?
I?ve only had a handful of rounds that would not fire on a second strike in the Kadet. And they were left in the snow over the winter as duds in something else. And that includes old ammo that has just been sitting in a basement corner for a looong time.
I believe I would try to more positively rule out the ammo as a first step as well.

Both the Remington and the CCI were purchased recently, last two months.

I just got 2 boxes of Federal this morning, target and generic, to try later today.

5 out of 6 FTF in SA, did not try any DA shots.  Definitely not the ammo.

Do you have another gun that you can try the kit for function?
