Wife looking at P10c
« on: April 23, 2018, 01:57:37 PM »
The wife wants another pistol.  Ive googled "p10c issues/problems" and top issues that were found are

1) slide plate coming loose
Newer models fixed this with a beveled edge (please confirm)

2) Out of battery due to striker rotating
Was this solved?

3) Broken firing pin around the 200rd mark
Buy a CGW one

Seems like all the above were from Jan 2018 and prior models. Did CZ solve these issues? S/n C400+ should be ok?

I know all guns have problems if you google "issues". But seems like more than normal. I got my vp9 a few months after release date and no issues, and so have many of my friends who bought 1.

1 & 2 are a consequence of each other.

Define "more than normal". Compared to what? Some guns exhibit failures early in production which is never any fun but then some won't show weak points till later in life which can be even less fun when the warranty has expired.

Only a sample of one... but I purchased mine in February and had none of these issues, although I did install the CGW striker. Mine does not have the very latest slide plate seen on one white nitride model posted here.

"Normal" to me is that when I googled P10C review, the top youtube vids and reviews were about not carrying as EDC/duty due to problems.  I'm new to the gun community and CZ in general.

All of the issues you stated have been addressed.  I have had no issues with my P10c, but I did install the HBi trigger and 3lb spring and the Cajun Gun Works Tool Steel striker just because.
I remember when "Common Sense" was common.  I must really be old!

So then being new to firearms (welcome by the way) you really have no experience as to what a normal or even abnormal amount of issues/failures would be. Quite honestly no one really does because we only know what we can read on various sites
or hear from friends. We don't know the actual number of defective guns VS non defects that are out there.
So that said you can find plenty of issues with the VP9 which has been out several years now and had it's kinks worked out while the P10C is only a bit over a year in production and CZ has pretty well addressed all that plagued the new gun early on.

In my personal experience, with my p10c, the only issue I had was a broken striker.  This happened at about 800 rounds.  I never had any issues with my striker channel/slide plate.  It is my understanding that the newer models have addressed the striker channel/slide plate issue.  you can see a small notch on the right side of the slide plate on the newer models.

Left is original, right is new slide.  So if you pick one up for the wife, i wold make sure it has that notch.

Thanks for the info everyone.  We're going to pick this up.  The S/N at the LGS is 489xxx so we should be OK.

The only reason why I'm making  a big issue is because in Hawaii we have gun registration.  So buying this gun takes me 3 trips to the police station (they only have 1 window for firearms open) and 2 week waiting period.  I don't want to go through all of that for a lemon.

Here's the process just as a FYI:

Buying a handgun
1) Take mandatory handgun safety course.
2) Show affidavit to LGS of above
3) Pay for handgun and get issued an application for purchase
4) Go to police station and show above application and wait 2 weeks for background check and mental health check
5) Go back to police station 2 weeks later and pick up handgun permit (5 days to pick it up or you have to start all over again)
6) Go to LGS and show them permit and take handgun you paid for already
7) Go back to police station and show them the gun so they can verify it

*Hawaii has a places to keep law, so while the handgun is in your possession, no stopping for lunch or coffee.  There is also only 1 registration window.  So with 2 people in front of you, the wait time is about 45 minutes.

Brand loyalty or fervent hope that all will be well are not strategies that I consider when betting my life on a tool.  Frankly speaking, this is the reason I got rid of my P-10C.  Of course, YMMV.

Sorry to hear you have to go through all the above just to exercise your second amendment rights. >:(   Sometimes I forget how nice it is to live in the free state of Arizona. With a CCW, you just go to the gun store, pick out your gun, fill out the 4473 and pay for the gun. Then go shoot it.  :)

BTW my P10C with a 444xxx serial number has been perfect through about a thousand rounds. So I would think your pistol will be fine.

It isn't brand loyalty for me... It's the many, many issue free rounds I have through mine. If the gun works all the time, every time, not sure what else to consider.

I'm not sure brand loyalty factors in. Maybe for some. I admittedly like my CZ's but I have had a couple that had issues when new. I've owned MANY brands and the only brand I've not had an issue with at some point so far has been Beretta and the gun is the 92FS. So far that's the only Beretta I've owned but it came out of the box and has run 110% flawlessly. 4K rounds so far.  I'm sure if I bought more Berettas at some point I'd get a bad one.

This is a very good point. If you buy enough guns from just about any manufacture, you my have problems. I've had minor and major issues, that include guns going back and being replaced, with Glock, Ruger, Walther, Smith&Wesson, Sig and Colt. So I'm convinced that all manufactures have had issues from time to time.
