Bullet Recommendations for 557 in .308?
« on: June 06, 2018, 07:29:28 PM »
CZ 557 Varmint in .308 - Preferred Bullet for punching paper at 100 Yards with a 25" Barrel and 1:10 Twist.

According to the internet;
a 1:10 twist suggests 170 to 220 grains.
a Flat Base bullet for close range accuracy.

The closest I've found to "ideal" is Berger 30 Cal 150 gr Flat Base

does a more "ideal" (matching type and weight) bullet exist for purchase in the USA?

In theory ...is Type > weight or is weight > type;

or in reality...Do I just buy a ideal weight bullet to match twist? or Do I buy the Flat Base type bullet as close to ideal weight?

Thoughts?

The bullet weight doesn't necessarily have to do with barrel twist, however the length of the projectile does.  For example an all copper projectile will be significantly longer than an all lead bullet of the same weight because lead is denser than copper.

As far as accuracy goes, you would be fine with a .308 with weights from 150 to 180 grains.  I'd shoot the 165 or 178 grain Sierra Matchking bullet with Varget, IMR 4064, or Reloader 15.
