Compact 75 Safety refinished in Hard Chrome and modified
« on: June 07, 2018, 11:42:00 PM »
I spent a lot of time on this gun (months) and posted in the gunsmithing forum about it. I figured I'd post it up here without the gory details on how it was done. A lot of frustrated nights.

Pictures are very difficult to take with this gun. It's literally a mirror on the flats. I tried to take pics of some of the modifications. Hopefully it's hard to tell what was modified because it looks natural.

I need to finish putting the fiber in the sight but it's done otherwise.

CZ75 Compact (purchased as a surplus gun)

Frame and Appearance modifications:
  • Extended beavertail
  • Rounded trigger guard
  • Trigger guard undercut
  • Scalloped mag release
  • Beveled magwell
  • Flushed slide stop lever
  • Flushed guide rod
  • Rounded nose
  • Grips4u.Net walnut grips
  • Hard chrome polished flats, matte rounds (Fords Refinishing)
  • Mecgar Mags (Hard Chrome polished) with PPD Baseplates (Hard chrome matte)
  • Additional polishing of exposed parts - Back of sear cage, slide stop spring retention pin, hammer pivot pin retaining plug, hammer pivot pin

Performance modifications:
  • CGW Pro Kit
  • CGW EZ-D sights
  • CGW recoil spring
  • CGW 10x barrel bushing
  • Polish every part I could think of on the frame and action (I'll spare the details)
  • Heat colored trigger

Trigger Performance:
DA is around 6 pounds 3 ounces
SA is around 3 pounds 6 ounces

You did a fantastic job! Do you mind sharing an approximate cost for the upgrades?

I remember your post where you welded the beavertail and reshaped it. That was a nightmare in itself, I'll have to say, it turned out beautiful, Good Job!!!!

The light at the end of the tunnel turned out to be a beautiful hunk of shining chromed goodness - congratulations!

I'm wondering how you took pin, slide and other clearances in account after chroming.
Or is the thickness of the crome no factor?
(I couldnt find an answer in your built thread.

Very nice gun!!

Very nice gun!!

From what I read from other people, hard chrome should effectively add so little to the surface that it would be negligible.
I found that not to be the case. There was a tangible difference to me, but that doesn't mean it translated to a measurable difference while testing.

Example:
The gun went out having a very slick slide to frame fitment. It came back rough. I polished up the rails to rectify that.

As far as chroming tolerances go - Nothing to do with the action itself was hard chromed except the hammer. Sear, sear cage, trigger bar, disconnector were not chromed).
I stoned the hammer hooks lightly to remove any hard chrome oddities.
